New for May 2026 at GJS:
Students need to earn a 4 or higher on Math eAssessment to take HL Math.
How many earned 3s in 2025?
So What do you notice?
May 2025
May 2024
GJS had 100% agreement with predicted and actual scores - 2 years in a row!!!!!
How did we do at standardization compared to IB moderation? 2024 and 2025 - Spot on!
What are we doing well with PP and how can we transfer this to other IAs?
How to avoid bias with student marking?
But 2023 year we underscored and overscored
Last year’s 7s….
Dara
Nazwa
Naima
Only Dara and Anika have IB moderated 7s - both are GJS exemplars
But we had 6 students earn 20 points - 1 point away from a 7!
The average counts not the actual points!!
Criterion A: Planning
Maximum: 0-8
In the personal project, students should be able to:
i. state a learning goal for the project and explain how a personal interest led to that goal
ii. state an intended product and develop appropriate success criteria for the product
iii. present a clear, detailed plan for achieving the product and its associated success criteria.
Criterion B: Applying Skills
Maximum: 0-8
In the personal project, students should be able to:
i. explain how the ATL skill(s) was/were applied to help achieve their learning goal
ii. explain how the ATL skill(s) was/were applied to help achieve their product.
Criterion C: Reflecting Maximum: 0-8
In the personal project, students should be able to:
i. explain the impact of the project on themselves or their learning
ii. evaluate the product based on the success criteria.
What is the Personal Project and why is it important?
We will guide our students through a three steps process: Criterion A: Inquiry, where they explore an area of their own interest and ask themselves questions about it.Criterion B: Action, students will transfer and apply skills to research about their project and create a product.Criterion C: Reflection, students reflect on their own learning process.
Key points:
They are marked on their report/evidence/process - not the product!
It’s the journey, not the destination

STEPS
We have taken the first
What have we done and what we are doing now?
Learning Goal
Product Goal
Personal interest
Academic interest
Example - I have a sweet tooth and love to cook with my grandmother.
2. Learning Goal
What do I want to learn about - must involve research!
I want to learn how to make healthier desserts using healthier substitutes.
3. Product goal
What will I make or do to show what I learned? Must connect to learning goal.
I will make a digital cookbook of 10 healthy desserts.
Key mistakes:
Bias - we grade the exhibition and not the product or we like the student …
Students need to document evidence! =flavor!
Photos
emails
screenshots
journals
drawings
research notes
mind maps
interviews
To-do lists
OPVL
KWL chart and more!
Next steps:
