Why is exercise important?

Physical benefits

  • Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity gain some health benefits.

Psychological benefits

  • Exercise releases chemicals that improve your mood. It can also get you out in the world, help to reduce any feelings of loneliness and isolation, boost up your confidence and put you in touch with other people.

Sleeping

To understand why sleep is important, think of your body like a factory that performs a number of important functions. As you drift off to sleep, your body begins its night-shift work of recharging.Sleeping helps you stay healthy because it gives your body the chance to:

• Heal damaged cells

• Boost your immune system

•Recover from the day’s activities

•Recharge your cardiovascular system
