Key findings from the company distribution:

The attendee list is heavily skewed toward Big Tech, with the top 3 companies alone accounting for 60 registrations. Here are the main takeaways:

  • Google dominates with 27 entries — nearly double any other company. This includes variants like "google" and "Google LLC".
  • Apple (17) and Facebook (16) form a close second tier, reflecting the Bay Area tech cluster.
  • Visa (9) and Oracle (7) lead the non-FAANG companies, with Wells Fargo (5) the top financial institution.
  • ICT sector overwhelmingly dominates, accounting for roughly 70% of all company-linked attendees.

Correlation Study (using Claude-Sonnet-4.6)

Here's a summary of the major correlations found in the data:

Attendee type skews: San Francisco is the only city with a truly diverse attendee mix — working pros, students, homemakers, and self-employed all represented. New York stands out as having essentially no non-professionals at all — nearly everyone is a working professional. Sunnyvale and Fremont have disproportionately high non-professional shares (~39% and ~36% respectively), dominated by homemakers, which is consistent with these being more suburban, family-settled communities.

Industry skews: The sharpest correlation is New York → Financial & Insurance (~67% of working pros). San Jose is the only Bay Area city with a meaningful Manufacturing cluster, driven by Cisco, Intel, Applied Materials, Nitto, and Advantest. Boston's small cohort is almost entirely in Professional/Scientific/Technical (research-oriented). Los Angeles shows the only Arts/Entertainment presence.

Seniority skews: New York skews the most senior in proportional terms (~50% at EVP/Director or above). San Francisco has the highest absolute C-Suite/Founder count, reflecting its startup density. Boston and Seattle skew the most junior — no C-Suite or EVP attendees at all, mostly Manager and Associate level.

Job function skews: Engineering dominates all Bay Area cities, but peaks most heavily in San Jose and Hayward. Boston is unique in having Research as essentially its only function. New York splits between Finance and Product Management, mirroring its financial services profile.

NA

Nothing!

None

That we couldn’t meet in person!

Nothing. Loved it all!

Nothing

Nothing, it was fantastic!

Lucky Draw took too long

Watching the parade. Not as interactive with the people on zoom.

The screen shares of videos were very laggy :(

Food ordering was biased against single people who do not have the capability to order large amounts of food to hit the $35 delivery without being a glutton. But its a small downside

prize giving - long and protracted

Not able to get the food and goodies.

lag in the NDP parade sound vs video

Food that went bad

The lelong style of the games - could have been better planned

Live feed was laggy, streamed via YouTube myself

nothing

i think there were q&a features in zoom that could have been used for the quiz

SingaporeConnect

Post-Event Survey: What did you not like?

31

Muting and unmuting

none

Ended going quite over time due to technical issues, pacing, etc.

Video sharing is laggy (seems to be known limitation of zoom)

Online show was too long.

The food - San Jose today is really really hot (above 94F where we are); our food came in spoilt and we threw them away

Videos were lagging

Lack of clarity surrounding celebration programme.

That we couldn’t participate in the food ordering

National Day Live Telecast.

Some technical issues

The food arrived 3 hours late-nothing to do with the organizers:)

It overran significantly but appreciate the efforts to finish the programming and the final lucky draw segment was quite entertaining.

Inadequate planning for food

Nothing. Everything was good!

Laptop hooked up to tv; poor video quality when videos were playing

None

Food was sold out fast! But thank you for organizing!!

No

Could not get the food because Weee do not delivery to my location at that date even if it’s within Bay Area. Food was sold out quickly too.

Too late

Understood that food ordering sold out due to an unexpectedly high number of registrants, but I wish that the food could have been limited more per household (maybe only 2 orders per household). Should have been able to spread out a smaller quantity of food over a higher number of households so more of us could participate!

Food arrived only at 6.30p

1st - the food delivered not per what we ordered and 2nd the satay order come without ice pack and they are spoilt due to the hot weather today (our food was delivered close to 5pm) - I do not know if the van has ice pack protection; the satay and the cucumber (with the bean sprout) already smells

Given Covid-19 will be with us for a long while, how do you think SingaporeConnect can pivot to this new norm? For example, what kind of events can we do? How can we keep all of you connected while social distancing? Please help us with your thoughts.

I think you all doing a great job! I was never more involved than this.

Karaoke. Singapore song sing along was quite fun today.

More virtual connects!

More events like this - online over zoom

na

Do short and casual fireside chats with local Singapore personalities like KF Seetoh, Hossan Leong, or Dick Lee. Best if they are at their work environment-- KF at Makansutra, Dick at the Wild Rice Theater. Personalities that are comfortable in front of an audience. This will connect us more directly with Singapore at that moment.

Socials, introducing newcomers to the bay area

Updates of initiatives, status, etc. Good to hear how sgpreans band together.. success/challenges. what are some problems and how we can come together to support.

Virtual meet-ups?

More zoom meetings. Create small interest groups.

More food related things!

I think the team has done a really good job so far.

jasmine doing great job. thank you jasmine

Maybe can give out food vouchers so families can collect the food personally without organiser worry about delivering it on time. I think the for safe distancing zoom meeting is still the best option.

To connect with each other more.

Virtual classes online

Keep Fit

More food events

More events like that talking about specific topics

So far so good, enjoyed the virtual events so far

Have more food delivery and zoom events, they are fun

zoom picnics

More such events! This is great. Especially if you're open to people from outside the Bay Area.

Loved the event today!

Would appreciate more help/advocacy with gov't for getting non-Singaporean family members/relatives into Singapore so that those of us who are Singaporean can return home...other than that, ongoing efforts with food delivery, spotlighting local restaurateurs etc. have been great!

Yes!

What you had been doing are really really good... thanks

I’d love to connect with more Singaporeans in my locality (Bay Area Tri-Valley). It may be easier to do smaller groups meetup (in person or virtually) and perhaps you could facilitate groups to form by locations.

Virtual board games or SG trivia night

NA

Quarterly connects over zoom?

WhatsApp or Facebook group

Have different topics of discussions to connect

Singaporeans.

Have a Zoom event once a quarter maybe on Singapore holidays like Chinese New Year, National Day, and other national holidays.

Virtual social gathering during major Singapore holidays to bring a taste of home

Webinars on different areas of expertise or "travel" shows by Singaporeans in unusual states.

Cooking programs?

Yes, please continue the meetings as they really keep the SG spirit high and connect all of us. Food topic is always popular!!

Online events or livestream works, and allow participation via both chat and video to cater to different preferences.

Slide 7 — How People Found Out About the Event

Discovery and communications channels

Most mentioned channels

  • WhatsApp chat groups
  • SGC Email List
  • Facebook posts (SingaporeConnect page/group and other groups)
  • Telegram chat groups
  • From SGN
  • occasional mentions of Twitter

Key insight

  • WhatsApp and email appear to be the strongest direct communication channels
  • Facebook remains useful for reach and discovery
  • Discovery is fragmented across multiple channels, suggesting a need for coordinated communications

46

Recommendation

  • Prioritize a multi-channel communication strategy
  • Use a single event landing message and repeat across channels with consistent timing

SingaporeConnect

47 of 61

Slide 8 — Zoom Experience

Did attendees run into difficulties with Zoom?

General pattern

  • Most respondents reported no Zoom difficulties
  • A small minority reported issues, typically tied to:
    • laggy video playback
    • poor quality during screen-shared videos
    • muting/unmuting friction
    • device/display setup limitations

Important nuance

  • Technical complaints were more often about video sharing format than about Zoom access itself

47

Implication

  • The issue is less “people can’t use Zoom”
  • More “Zoom is not ideal for broadcast-style video playback unless optimized”

SingaporeConnect

48 of 61

Slide 9 — Detailed Technical / Setup Feedback

What specific setup issues were mentioned?

Examples

  • Laptop connected to TV with poor video quality
  • Lag during shared video segments
  • Audio/video sync mismatch
  • Muting/unmuting friction
  • Confusing food setup rather than Zoom itself for some respondents

Themes

  • Screen share limitations affected live telecast/video enjoyment
  • Problems were more pronounced during media-heavy segments
  • Interactive segments like quizzes performed better than passive watch segments

48

Operational takeaway

  • For future events, use:
    • optimized video sharing settings
    • simpler viewing instructions
    • hybrid broadcast + interaction model

SingaporeConnect

49 of 61

Slide 10 — Virtual Choir Participation

  3. Were not aware
  4. Not interested
  5. Technical setup for recording felt difficult
  6. Couldn’t think of anything creative
  7. A few did participate and enjoyed it

49

Key insight

  • The barrier was not necessarily lack of goodwill
  • It was mainly:
    • time
    • complexity
    • awareness
    • confidence

SingaporeConnect

50 of 61

Slide 11 — Why Virtual Choir Underperformed

Lessons from the choir response

What likely happened

  • The choir ask required more effort than other event activities
  • Participants needed:
    • more lead time
    • clearer instructions
    • lower performance pressure
    • easier recording/editing process
  • Some respondents perceived the song as difficult or the submission process as too technical

50

Recommendations for future participatory projects

  • Choose simpler songs
  • Offer a short tutorial / demo
  • Provide sample submissions
  • Reduce technical complexity
  • Give more notice and reminders
  • Frame participation as casual and fun, not polished/performance-based
