Senior EOY Summative Assessment EXEMPTION

7

Thursday, June 2 and Friday, June 3, 2022 (Last Day)

The following guidelines will be used for the Senior End of Year Summative Assessment Exemption Program as agreed upon by LCPS High School principals. These guidelines will also apply for participation in the Wolverine Capstone.

  • The program is optional and may be implemented at the discretion of each high school.
  • The program will use second semester data only.
  • To be eligible, a student must have at least a 70 (C-) average for the second semester through the first eight weeks of the fourth nine-week grading period.
  • To be eligible, a student can be absent no more than two (2) class periods in block classes.
  • The program applies to students assigned to senior homerooms.
  • Any student meeting the criteria for exemption may choose to take the end of year summative assessment, otherwise the last day for a student meeting this criteria is June 9, 2022.
  • The end of year summative assessment exemption will be determined class by class. Failure to pass an EOC SOL test that is required as part of a current course will nullify the senior end of year summative assessment exemption in that course.

Senior EOY Summative Assessment EXEMPTION

8

Thursday, June 2 and Friday, June 3, 2022 (Last Day)

  • Students attending more than half of a class will be counted present for purposes of this program – tardies to class or early dismissals from class that do not result in missing more than half of a class will not be considered.
  • Classes missed due to organized school activities (i.e., field trips, athletic team participation) will not count as absences from class for purposes of this program.
  • An absence to observe a recognized religious holiday will not count for purposes of this program.
  • In-school restriction and suspension days will be counted as absences from class.
  • All other non-school related absences – whether excused or unexcused – will be counted as absences from class.
  • Cheating or any other integrity violation that results in disciplinary action removes the student from consideration for end of year summative assessment exemption in all classes.
  • A senior failing to meet the requirements for exemption may appeal to the teacher (except in cases of an integrity violation). The teacher may determine on a case-by-case basis that special circumstances exist and permit the student to be exempt from the end of year summative assessment. No review of teacher decisions beyond the individual school level will be available. Students requesting exemption due to extenuating circumstances, such as chronic medical conditions, should contact the school principal.

Immediately Following Graduation Practice #1

Prior to this practice, seniors must turn in all school-related items, including:

  • Chromebooks
  • textbooks
  • class-specific supplies
  • library books
  • athletic team items

Any items not turned in prior to this practice will constitute a “deficiency,” resulting in some/all items being held until the deficiency is resolved. After this date, all deficiencies must be resolved through the Main Office.

Tables will be set up behind the Stadium home bleachers in order for students to pick up their graduation items including their cap, gown, stole, tassel, cords, and any other club or activity awards or honors . If you do not receive a cord or award you feel you should have earned at this time, please contact the club or activity sponsor to resolve these issues.

Please note that all students MUST pick up their cap, gown, stole and tassel and sign for these items. These four items will NOT be handed out to a friend, a neighbor, etc. If a parent needs to pick up these items for their child, please email the Senior Class sponsor in order to make an appointment to do so. Balfour staff will be available during this time to fix any issues, so please inspect your items to make certain they are intact and correct. Seniors should ensure that they have their cap, gown, stole and tassel before they leave for the day. Seniors are expected to wear their gowns and stoles (no caps or tassels) to the Senior Awards Ceremony on June 12.

Cap and Gown Care

GRADUATION

18

Friday, June 17, 2022

Start time 8:00am

Arrival Time - 6:30am - Report to the Auxiliary Gym

  • Appropriate Dress - Your caps and gowns are navy blue with kelly green trim on the sleeve. Your stole is kelly green.
        • All graduates are expected to wear appropriate attire for this significant event, such as dress pants with a button-down shirt and tie or a semi-formal dress. Please remember your graduation is a dignified ceremony and you should dress appropriately for such an important occasion.
        • Shoes!! We will be walking quite a distance to the Stadium from the school and down the track. During the ceremony, you will walk across the turf field to the stage to receive your diplomas. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you wear a lower heeled shoe, as high heels will be difficult to walk in gracefully and may get caught in the turf field.
        • Tassels are worn on the right side of the cap during the ceremony. Caps must be positioned correctly and securely on your head so style your hair appropriately. DO NOT WRITE OR TAPE ANYTHING ON THE TOP OF YOUR CAP – IT IS A MORTAR BOARD, NOT A BILLBOARD. Absolutely no jewelry, flowers, or other adornments of any sort may be worn or attached in any way to your cap, gown or stole.
        • Pins that have been awarded to you through participation in athletics and extra-curricular activities may be worn on your stole.
        • Those seniors who earn a 4.0 GPA or higher will be given an honor graduate stole at Practice #2.
        • Those seniors who are in the top 10% of the class will receive a special white tassel at Practice #2.
