Spring Stampede

Due to the continuing impacts of COVID-19, we switched gears a bit this year for our Spring Stampede and Color Run and held a virtual race! Although our participation numbers did not match the usual volume of runners we have, we kept our race alive with 25 runners. While we missed being able to see everyone’s friendly faces, we encouraged our runners to have fun with their virtual races and awarded gift cards to people in the following categories: Oldest (most vintage!) Spring Stampede tshirt, Oldest participant, Youngest participant, and First time participants. We would like to offer our sincerest thanks to our dedicated runners and all the businesses that have supported us through the years. After the race, the Ed Foundation donated $100 to the Chester Mendham Food Pantry to support their efforts. Here’s to great races in 2022!

The Educational Foundation of the Chesters is proud to share our accomplishments for 2020-21. We would like to thank the many donors, parent volunteers, teachers, principals, Board of Education, and our hard working Board of Trustees for enhancing and expanding educational opportunities in our Chester Public School District. All of the wonderful programs and grants funded this year were made possible with your tremendous support!

2020-21 Highlights

• Raised over $21,000 through donations, fundraisers, and corporate and local sponsors
• Funded 11 grants for a total of $19,844
• Supported 3 clubs.

Chester students rallied above the challenges of the Covid pandemic to make the 2020 Educational Foundation of the Chesters Read–A-Thon a great success! There were 171 students who participated this year. We celebrate our young readers from Dickerson and Bragg who together logged 172,522 minutes! We thank the parents, friends, principals, and teachers who supported the students and their efforts to raise over $10,000 in pledges! This fundraising effort will continue to provide funding for grants, purchases of technology to support innovative classroom learning programs, new school clubs, and more!

The Educational Foundation of the Chesters is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit, organization dedicated to providing an enriching educational experience for every student in the Chester Public School District. Our mission is to promote educational excellence and prepare students for success in the 21st century by generating independent funding for innovative, educational projects that support the curriculum but fall outside of the district’s standard budget.

Fall & Winter Grants 2020

Dickerson Elementary:

· Headphones - A classroom set of headphones to be used with students’ Chromebooks to enhance their reading/listening experiences. Awarded to Samantha Westberg.

Bragg Intermediate:

· Trumpet - Thank you, Mr. Jala, for your continuous hard work in bringing musical opportunities to the students of Chester schools. Awarded to Christopher Jala.

· Yoga Mats and Blocks - A classroom set of yoga mats and blocks to provide students with materials for guided movement breaks throughout the week. These breaks will help students focus their bodies and minds and engage in learning. Awarded to Dana Militante

. Kids’ Kindles - A classroom set of Kids’ Kindles to provide additional options for students to read and enhance a love of reading. Awarded to Milli Roskie

Black River Middle School:

· Shade folding chairs - A set of shaded outdoor chairs to allow resource students to learn socially distanced outside and reduce glare on computer screens during pandemic learning. Awarded to Jennifer Yeager

Chester School District:​

· Okiocam Document Cameras- These compact, lightweight document cameras help teachers project papers and other documents onto computer screens and the SmartBoard to allow students to follow along with lessons in the classroom and from home. Awarded to Michael Dougherty.

**Chester School District was featured for its implementation of the Okiocam document cameras in a case study run by Okiolabs on how our district adapted to virtual learning for the students! **

Spring and Special Grants 2021

Dickerson Elementary:

· Let’s Get Moving - Having Fit and Fun playscape stencils outdoors around the building to encourage gross motor skills games and activity. Awarded to Melissa Tuleya

· School Storywalk - Creation and permanent installation of a deconstructed children’s story book (changeable) along a path on Dickerson’s campus. Awarded to Nicole Healy

· Carl Anderson Book Writing Grant - Teachers will learn about executing meaningful writing conferences with students. Awarded to Danielle Meekings

Black River Middle School:​

· Stage lights - Professional quality stage lighting to illuminate our student concerts and drama performances. Awarded to Doreen Aiello and Kenneth Piascik

· Double French Horn - Adding a double french horn to the instruments available to students to rent allows for continued proficiency in music, and allows students who begin at Bragg School to carry on their music education. Awarded to Kenneth Piascik

**After having to cut our campaign short last year due to the schools' shut down and stay-at-home orders for COVID-19, our community rallied together to show our students, teachers, and administrators how proud and thankful we are for their resilience and strength throughout the pandemic. This year we were able to raise over $10,000! Together we are strong!**
