The Strategic Intervention Material was designed to give the learners a wide understanding on the different concepts related to temperature.

The result of the 2021-2022 Diagnostic Test in Mathematics 5 conducted last September 18, 2021 in Cataggaman Elementary School in the Division of Tuguegarao City showed that the performance level of the Grade V pupils in solving routine and non – routine problems involving temperature in real - life situations. (M5ME-IVf-85) was very low. Same result was also shown in the Fourth Quarter Summative Test in Mathematics V for the School Year 2020 -2021. It was also suggested in the COT – RPMS Observation Note Form of the school head during her observation the need to prepare a Strategic Intervention Material for the said competency. Furthermore, during this time of pandemic, we heard feedbacks from parents that the need for supplementary materials to be utilized by the pupils, aside from the available Self Learning Modules and Learning Activity Sheets, are supreme necessary to improve this learning competency.

There should be mastery of pupils in identifying the parts of thermometer and reading temperatures shown in the thermometer so that they can solve routine and non - routine problems involving temperature.

GUIDE CARD

The hottest man-made temperature ever recorded is 7.2 trillion degrees Fahrenheit, or about four billion degrees Celsius. It’s about 250,000 times hotter than the temperature at the core of the sun. The extreme recording was made at the Brookhaven Natural Laboratory in New York.

Main Task:

In this lesson, you will learn the concept of solving routine and non - routine problems involving temperature in real life situations.

For you to understand the lesson better, you are going to do series of activities. Here is the list of activities that you are going to perform:

Temperature is measured using a thermometer. The English unit of temperature is degrees Fahrenheit (˚F), while the metric unit of temperature is degrees Celsius (˚C.)

Anders Celsius developed thermometer using the ˚C while Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the thermometer using the ˚F. The normal boiling point of water is 100˚C or 212˚F. The normal freezing point of water is 0˚C or 32˚F . The normal body temperature is 37˚C or 98.6˚F.
