General Information about IB

  • Most courses and additional components require a two-year commitment.
  • Requirements to earn college credit vary by course.
    • Internal assessments occur throughout the two years.
    • External assessments occur at the end of the year you take the course for a one-year course and the end of senior year for a two-year course.
  • The IB program is designed with a holistic approach to develop the well-rounded individual who is prepared for college and career.

Research

  • The Reflective Project (RP) is an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period of time and submitted towards the end of the CP. Through a reflective project, students identify, analyze, critically discuss, and evaluate an ethical issue arising from their career-related studies.

The Reflective Project is intended to promote high-level research, writing and extended communication skills, intellectual discovery, and creativity.

Career-Related Program (CP)

  • The Extended Essay (EE) is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper due towards the end of the DP. Students choose their topic.

Other

  • Community Engagement is the development and application of knowledge and skills towards meeting an identified and authentic community need.

In this research-based approach, students often undertake service initiatives related to topics studied previously in their academic disciplines, utilizing skills, understandings, and values developed in these studies.

  • Language and Cultural Studies ensures that all students have access to a language programme that will assist and further their understanding of the wider world. The ability to communicate in more than one language is essential to the IB’s concept of an international education.

Other

  • The three strands of Creativity, activity, service (CAS), which are often interwoven with particular activities, are characterized as follows:
    1. Creativity – arts and other experiences that involve creative thinking.
    2. Activity – physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic work elsewhere in the DP.
    3. Service – an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity, and autonomy of all those involved are respected.

To demonstrate these concepts, students are required to undertake a CAS project. The project challenges students to:

  • show initiative
  • demonstrate perseverance
  • develop skills such as collaboration, problem solving, and decision making.

High School Graduation Requirements

  • To earn a high school diploma, IBCP students must meet all the high school graduation requirements.
    • 4 English
    • 4 Math
    • 3 Social Studies
    • 3 Science
    • 1 Art, HOPE, & Financial Literacy
    • 8 electives for a total of 24 credits

Career-Related Program (CP)

  • IBDP students are waived from taking several high school graduation requirements including HOPE, Art, Economics, & US Government.
  • IBDP students must meet the US History requirement.

Bright Futures

  • To earn Bright Futures, CP students must meet the academic, service, and test score requirements established annually by state legislation.

Career-Related Program (CP)

  • Students who earn the IB Diploma are eligible for the full Bright Futures scholarship.
