READ-ALOUD

Today’s read-aloud is The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Mark Martchenko.

Some things to think about while listening to the story:

Why does Elizabeth chase the dragon?

How does she trick the dragon?

Were you surprised when Ronald doesn’t thank Elizabeth?

Should he?

What matters more: how Elizabeth looks or how she acts?

What words would you use to describe her? Is she still a princess?

What does Elizabeth mean when she says, “You look like a real prince, but you are a bum”?

What do you think happens next to Elizabeth after the story is over?

PAPER BAG FASHION

PROJECT!

Are there any paper grocery bags in your house? What can we transform them into??

Can you make a costume or outfit out of paper bags? You could color your bags with markers, crayons, or paint. Think about how you want your bag to fit onto your body, and what kind of shape and print you want it to have.

Your paper bags could turn you into a robot, an animal, or a human dressed for a fancy party. You decide!
