Who Is Eligible?

  • Any grade 11 student who has:
  • Completed 2 years of the same program
  • Wants to participate in a real work based program

What is Work Based Learning?

  • DOE & DOL initiative supervised program to allow students to experience their career choice in a true business environment
  • Students work 4 days a week instead of reporting to school
  • Students report to school 1 day a week for coordinator contact and related careers class

Where Does Work Based Learning Occur?

  • Any business related to the student’s career cluster
                • Transportation
                • Building Trades
                • Health Science
                • Art
                • Hospitality
                • Human Services

When?

  • September through June
  • Afternoons 12 to 3 or later
  • 4 days a week at worksite
  • 1 day at UCVTS technical careers class

Grading

  • Mentor Evaluation of Performance 50%
  • Work Based Learning Coordinator Evaluation 40%
  • Student Evaluation 10%

  • Lock in employer: Letter of Intent (April to May)
  • Site Inspection and paperwork
  • BOE approval (May to June)
  • September start
