“AJC: Starting WWII Research …”

- Watch the video from the start to 3:02. Topics include letters and correspondence, military terminology, and service units.

“AC: Find Them In …”

- On page 1, summarize and discuss each of the four tips for using Ancestry collections to research WWII ancestors.

- On pages 2 and 3, summarize and discuss the five tips, using the pictures as reference points. Emphasize the genealogy clues made available in each tip.

“Military Record Reconstruction”

- Watch the video from the start to 3:48. Discuss why military records often need to be “reconstructed” for evidence, and how a timeline can help.

“GTV: WWII Draft Reg. Card”

- Watch the video from 0:32 to 1:26 to see the types of information included on WWII draft cards.

“American Battle Monuments Commission”

Open the link for the site and briefly summarize the opening paragraph, to explain the purpose of the website.

- Click the “Conflict” tile and select “WWII”.

- In the upper left, type “Jones” as the surname and click the Search icon.

- Click the First Name heading to sort by first name. Notice that there are multiple Albert Jones’s listed.

- Explore the other tiles on the previous page to see additional features of the site.

“Military Indexes”

- Open the link for the site and scroll down a ways into the state links. This site show many resources for WWI research and records.

“Record Search Practice”

- Click the link for the first exercise and briefly review the info. This is an example of an exercise that can be done during or after the class. Then click the Hints link to show help info. Explain that the Answers link has the answers to the items in the problem statem, but don’t open the Answers link.

“QUIKLinks”

- Briefly scan the list of QUIKLinks and demonstrate one of them, to show how easy it is to access a record collection from a QUIKLink.
