Spanish 3-4 and Honors 2020-2021

Course Description: In this course you will learn the Spanish vocabulary and grammar that you will need to speak and write about advanced topics comparing cultures and their practices. You will also be learning how to read, analyze and interpret information from different sources to write an organized essay in Spanish.

Daily Rules:

  1. Treat others in the same manner that you desire to be treated.
  2. Be focused on what you are learning in Spanish class.
  3. Keep your body to yourself, respecting other people’s space, and your words appropriate.
  4. Do not leave your seat or the room without following set classroom procedures.

Materials:

  1. Notebook/Binder.*
  2. Blue/Black ink pen.*
  3. Class Handouts.*
  4. Pocket Spanish/English Dictionary.

Expectations:

  1. Be on time, in your seat after a certain amount of minutes you will be marked late to class so be on time.
  2. Give your attention to the lesson and the class activities.
  3. Turn in all work within the time frame it is given, making sure that it is legible and complete.
  4. Give your best effort in all speaking activities and class discussions to enrich your learning as well as the learning of those around you.
  5. Participate actively in class and be sure to listen to directions when they are given the first time.
  6. Follow all safety directions, especially in an emergency situation or drill.
  7. Treat classroom materials and borrowed materials with care, returning them to their rightful place when done with them, especially school owned computers and devices.

Assignments and Grading Policy

  1. Classwork Practice: Sentence exercises, correcting errors, fill in the gap, short essay writing.
  2. Homework: Flashcards, online assignments, handouts. WIll be checked daily.
  3. Quizzes: Will be on vocabulary and grammar. They will be given weekly, sometimes quizzes will be taken on chromebooks.
  4. Tests: There will be either Speaking or Writing tests. Speaking tests will be submitted online through flipgrid or another designated platform.
  5. Final Exam: There will be two “Final Exams”. One at the end of each semester. These tests can raise or lower a students semester grade by an entire letter.

Late/Make-up Work Policy:

  • Classwork is to be done in class, and will not be accepted late. An extension may be given if the activity proves to require more time (determined by Sr. Fitzsimmons), otherwise, reduced or no credit may be given.
  • If absent, each student is responsible to get the work and notes that they missed.
  • Quizzes and Tests must be made up after school as soon as possible.
  • Homework is due at the beginning of class on the due date. It is to be done completely or it will count as a zero. It will not be accepted late.

Turning in work:

Work should be turned in by the due dates that are given on Google Classroom.

Lateness

Students should be on time to class meetings. If not then they will be marked late.

Attendance:

We will meet via webex. The link is permanently posted in your google classroom under the course name. Attendance will be taken daily within the first five minutes of class.

When you need help:

  • Students must attend in Small groups or individually during class time after the initial class meeting.

Digital Norms:

  1. Students should use the hand raise button when they need to speak or share, and be unmuted by the teacher.
  2. Students should use the chat for class related conversation only.
  3. Students must participate in poll questions and answer questions out loud during lessons.
  4. Do not share any sensitive information online such as your usernames and passwords.
  5. Keep yourself distraction free and be sure to focus on what is going on with our class.

Google Classroom

  1. Will be used to post assignments and homeworks/quizzes.
  2. Will contain a calendar of what is approaching in class, including quiz and test dates.
  3. May also be used to upload speaking assignments and any project that may be done in class.

Quizlet

  • Students will sign up for quizlet with their school email and use it to practice assigned vocabulary for each unit of study.
  • The quizlet will be assigned at the beginning of a unit, and can be done at the student’s desired pace. But at least 5 of the 6 activities must be completed to a specified level by the end of the unit.

Student/Parent Vue

  • Students and parents can check grades and progress.
  • Grades that are put in as an “M” are missing and are calculated as a zero.
  • Sometimes a comment may be left with the grade which can be seen by both the student and parent.
