Welcome to French 2!
French 2 is a performance-based course, focusing on building your ability to hold conversations, read, listen, write, and speak in French. Homework will consist of studying French for at least 10-15 mins a day. Integrated Performance Assessments (IPA) in writing, speaking, conversation, reading, and listening are administered at the end of each unit. Each unit is designed to build toward success in the IPA and the course is designed to help you grow your French abilities.
Units Covered:
Culturally appropriate introductions, routines, traveling, medieval & renaissance history with a focus on castles, and animals.
Textbook:
D’accord 2
Grading Procedures:
Your grade in French will be based on what you are able to do with the language. Homework: Spend 10-15 minutes minimum a day on actively studying French outside of class.

Modern Language Department Policy on Advancement
Students who do not achieve at least a 77% in semester one (“S1” for PowerSchool) are required to choose a new elective for the Spring semester. We want to make sure you are in a position to be successful in the second semester and scoring less than 77% indicates that you have likely not mastered all the skills you need to succeed in the next level of the language. If this is the case for you, you should make an appointment with your counselor or send them an email as soon as possible to choose another elective for next semester.
Academic Assistance
M-Th: 3:00pm – 3:40pm
M-F: Potter Hour
Planning Period: Sem 1: 5th, Sem2: 3rd
By appointment only. Students must sign up for assistance via email or during class. I am always happy to work with students when they need assistance, but students need to be proactive so that they can get help when they need it.
Make–up Work/Late work/Retakes:
Please check Schoology to see what you missed.
You are expected to meet all deadlines, as this class builds on itself, but there may be times when you will need to turn classwork in late or make up work. Your late work or missing work will be accepted without penalty until the end-of-unit assessments begin. Grades are reported at that time. After that point, it will not be accepted for credit. Any retakes must be completed prior to the end-of-unit assessments or the original grade will stand.
If you miss an end-of-unit assessment, your instructor will arrange for you to make it up the next day in class without penalty. However, due to time restraints or the nature of the assessment, you may need to schedule a time outside of class to make up the assessment.
You are encouraged to retake assessments. You may be required to complete additional work and/or attend a help session prior to a retake. In all cases the second score will count as the current grade even when that grade is lower. You must notify me within 24 hours of the assessment that you wish to retake the assessment.
A “0” in the gradebook for a missing assignment will be changed WHEN it is submitted. A “1” indicates it was submitted but something needs to change – view the feedback.

CLASSROOM NORMS FOR TECHNOLOGY
Listen for teacher’s cue to close screen of iPad when whole-group attention is needed.
Save/turn in work as needed and completely put away iPads when directed to do so.
Visit only the websites listed in the activity, Schoology, or stated by the teacher. Any accidental deviation to an unauthorized website should be reported to the teacher immediately.
Don’t eat or drink in the classroom when iPads are being used.
PHONES WILL BE SILENT AND PUT AWAY UNLESS GIVEN PERMISSION.
Students enrolled in French are expected to be prepared for class with their iPad, binder, and supplies. You will be an active learner in class by taking notes, highlighting, participating and outside of class by studying daily. I also expect students to ask questions and seek help.
Because this class builds on itself, quarantined students are expected to email me, check Schoology AND attend daily live class sessions as directed during your class period. Please use the nickname madame when entering the google meet. Material will not be presented twice nor will emails be answered about what was covered in class.
I look forward to helping you grow and learn French with you this year. Through active lessons, practice, games, and real French language, you will grow as a scholar, learn how you study best, and best yet: the French-speaking world opens to you!
Sincerely,
Madame BILYEU
