Hermes

  • 2nd youngest of the Olympian Gods
  • God of transitions and boundaries
  • Acted as a messenger of the Gods- telling the mortals what the Gods wanted them to know.
  • Also acted as the protector of the travelers.
  • One of his most recognizable symbols is the winged sandals or winged hat.

Hercules

  • Demigod- part god/part human
  • Most known for his superhuman strength
  • Had lots of adventures with mythical creatures
  • Famous for completing 12 labors or tasks

Hera

  • Was the wife and one of three sisters of Zeus.
  • Her main function was the goddess of women and marriage.
  • One of her key symbols was a pomegranate- a very juicy fruit.
  • Known for being jealous and vengeful- she often wanted revenge if she felt she had been wronged.

  • The God of many things:
    • Light and sun
    • Truth and prophecy
    • Healing
    • Plague
    • Music
    • Poetry and more
  • Associated with medicine and healing
  • A key symbol is the lyre- a musical instrument.

  • Goddess of many things:
    • Love
    • Beauty
    • Pleasure
    • Procreation
  • Older than Zeus
  • Had a relationship with many of the Gods
  • Symbols:
    • Doves
    • Sparrows
    • Horses

Dionysus

  • God of wine (and partying)
  • God of epiphany- a sudden vision
  • Many people worshipped Dionysus (also known as Bacchus,) by throwing giant parties.
