Communication & Rules

2

During IB Exams

3 of 61

What IB Exams do I take?

3

  • You will take an IB exam in EVERY IB course you’re enrolled in.

  • The IBO divides the IB exams in to sections, they refer to as PAPERs
    • E.g. Paper 1, Paper 2, etc.

  • Each of these Papers have a different percentage weight towards your total IB score
    • Subjects scored on a 7 to 1 scale
    • TOK, EE scored on an A to E scale
    • CAS scored as Met or Not Met

  • IB Scores can translate into college credit
    • And the IB Diploma :)

4 of 61

Do I have to take every IB Exam Paper?

  • YES!
    • We published the schedule in August.
    • All components (IA + Exam Papers) are required to get an IB college-reportable score
  • What if I don’t attend?
    • You’ll be marked absent
    • You’ll need to take an IB style final exam for the class that will count as 20% of your final grade in the MPHS course
    • You will not be published as a Diploma candidate at MPHS graduation nor be eligible to wear an IB cord as graduation regalia
    • There will be a fee from the State of North Carolina for a missed exam ($123.00)

4

See the adverse circumstances slide for more information

5 of 61

In case of emergencies

5

Communication is KEY about EMERGENCIES

  • CONTACT MS. DAVIS via ParentSquare as soon as you are safely able to do so
    • You’ll have to contact your parent(s)
    • You’re parent(s) will be the ones to send Ms. Davis the message
  • CALL Myers Park High School at 980-343-5800
    • Someone will relay your message to the testing coordinator

6 of 61

Attendance & Absences

12

13 of 61

Off Site Testing & School Absences

13

  • We conduct the majority of our exams off-site from MPHS
    • We do this to minimize distractions
    • This year, we’re at PUMC – more information on that later

  • On the day(s) of your exam:
    • Report to the testing site: you will not be counted absent (excused) if you are present for the exam at the testing site
      • You do not need to report to any classes on the day of your exam
    • Ms. Stine (attendance secretary) receives a list of who was present for the day
    • Your teachers also receive a list of who is testing on that day

14 of 61

What if… I miss an exam?

14

  • Please refer to the adverse circumstances information for what can qualify as an adverse circumstance
    • You will need to provide documentation that Ms. Davis gives to the IBO. It is then up to the IBO IF they approve the reason for your absence and then will give you a “next steps” list
  • There are NO MAKE UP IB EXAM DATE(s) for ANY REASON
  • If you miss an Exam Paper, there is NO WAY to make it up
    • How it impacts IB Scores:
      • You’ll receive an IB score of an N (No-show; Non-submission) for that paper
      • You’ll receive a total IB score of an N for that subject = NO COLLEGE CREDIT
    • How it impacts CMS grades:
      • You’ll be marked absent for the day
      • You’ll need to take a final exam for that course during final exam week
        • The final exam will be an IB style test (all components represented)
        • It will be 20% of your FINAL MPHS grade for the course
