This is what a day at Kideus preschool might look like:

Everyone who works at our preschool is covered by the duty of confidentiality.

Our view of children:

That your child’s interest and curiosity shall permeate our activities at the preschool is a prerequisite for us to be able to develop together. Children that are active and curious develop their own interest in learning. Your competent child needs competent pedagogues . In cooperation with us, the pedagogues , the time spent together is stimulating. We are co-researchers. Curiosity and the desire to learn shall be with us at Kideus free preschool.

Introduction/acclimatization:

We use a parent-active introduction. This entails that the parent/parents take responsibility for their child and get some insight into our activities.  You as a parent is the child's security during the introduction. Together with the pedagogue we decide what times the child will be at the preschool and when the handover will be. An introduction typically takes 3-10 days. Day 1 you visit the preschool for about 1 hour, and then the duration is gradually increased day by day. Parents  are offered to eat lunch together with the children during the introduction period.

We think this is a good introductory day:

Both the child and parent gets some insight into the activities as well as how a day at the preschool might look.

Both the child and parent get to know the other children and the pedagogues better.

The pedagogues get the opportunity to get to know and connect to your child in a competent manner.

3:00 PM is chosen so that the principal can make an initial assessment for the next day, have time to check substitutes, and reduce evening work.

Preschool in Sweden

Many people have an opinion that the staff at the preschool only looks after their children, but having your child at a preschool in Sweden cannot be compared to having a babysitter or nanny.

At Kideus, only educated childcare workers and preschool teachers work with your children. To become a childcare worker, you study for three years in high school, and in this education, you study communication, pedagogical leadership, children's learning and development, basic care, creative activities and pedagogical work.

To become a preschool teacher, you study for three years at the university, and in this education, you study the preschool's organization, profession and leadership, pedagogy and care ethics. You also read about teaching younger children in subjects that are part of the preschool curriculum such as mathematics, science, technology and language.

We have a law in Sweden, Education Act, which states what rights and obligations children, and their guardians have regarding education, development and security in school. The Education Act also applies to preschool.

Beside this law, we have a curriculum that all preschools in Sweden must follow.

The preschool curriculum describes the preschool's values and mission and contains goals and guidelines for everything we do at preschool.

The curriculum states that the education in the preschool shall lay the foundation for lifelong learning. It should be fun, safe and educational for all children. The education must be based on a holistic view of children and the children's needs, where care, development and learning form a whole.

Preschool teachers are responsible for the pedagogical content of the teaching and for the goal-oriented work promoting children's development and learning, but in the teaching, childcare worker also participate in promoting the children's development and learning.

In play, children get the opportunity to imitate, fantasize and process impressions. In this way, they can form an opinion about themselves and other people. Play stimulates imagination and empathy. Play can also challenge and stimulate children's motor skills, communication, cooperation and problem solving. Therefore, it is important to give the children time, space and peace to invent games, experiment and experience.

Language, learning and identity development are closely linked. The children must be offered a stimulating environment where they are given the conditions to develop their language.

The children must be given time, space and peace for their own creation. The children will be given the opportunity to experience, shape and communicate through various aesthetic forms of expression such as image, form, drama, movement, song, music and dance.

The education in preschool should give the children the opportunity to use mathematics to investigate and describe their surroundings and solve everyday problems. The education must also give the children the conditions to develop adequate digital competence by giving them the opportunity to develop an understanding of the digitalization they encounter in everyday life. The education must take advantage of the children's curiosity and challenge and stimulate their interest in and knowledge of nature, society and technology.

The preschool must offer the children safe care and has an important role in helping to establish the children's security and self-esteem. The education must be characterized by care for the child's well-being and security. All children should experience the satisfaction and joy it gives to make progress, overcome difficulties and be an asset in the group.

Report of concern

According to the Social Services Act, we who work in preschools/schools/care are obliged to report to social services if we become aware of or suspect that a child is being harmed, and for example is being subjected to physical abuse.

What should we report?

  • Physical abuse (hitting, kicking, pulling the child by the ear, snapping fingers)
  • Psychological abuse (threats, mockery, unreasonable punishment, insults)
  • Sexual abuse
  • Lack of care (lack of clothing, poor hygiene, refusing medical care, poor diet)
  • One's own behavior (self-harm)

If there is suspicion of criminal activity, such as assault or sexual assault, guardians may NOT be informed.

The other points should be discussed with the guardians beforehand so that they are aware of the deficiency, and if no improvement occurs, a report will be made.

Parental Information

When children start in childcare, it is common that they often get sick. Children in the 1-4 age can normally be infected up to 8-10 times a year. This means that you as a parent may need to be at home with their children several times per semester to help the infection heal and to prevent the spread of infection to others.

When should the child stay home?

Status of the child, that the child eat, sleep and have the energy to participate in group activities, is crucial if the child can stay in the nursery. The child should be able to participate in everyday activities, both indoors and outdoors as well as being at the preschool a full day. Has the child had an infection they need to recover a few days to cope with a "working" at the preschool.

Guidelines for when a child should be at home

* Fever also mild. Return to kindergarten at the earliest after a fever-free day at home (24 hours).

* If the child is fever-free, but is so tired and lethargic that they can not cope with the normal activities of the preschool.

* Cough that keeps the child awake at night.

* Chickenpox early In the disease, then the child has a fever and is in the public affected.

For infection control reasons:

* Stomach bugs with vomiting and / or loose stools. Children with stomach problems therefore need to stay at home for two symptom-free days (the stomach is functioning as normal, the child has an appetite, and is in a good general condition) before returning to preschool. Siblings who attend at preschool stay at home with the sibling when one of them has a stomach bug.

* Tonsillitis that is untreated or when the antibiotic treatment lasted for less than two days.

* Acute conjunctivitis, with severe redness / sensitivity to light and / or lasting watery eyes.

* Impetigo until all wounds have healed (no scab left) or antibiotics in tablets / oral solution form that lasted less than two days.

At protracted infection periods hygiene councils need to be tightened. Preschool staff are the best have a complete picture of the infection situation in preschool and there are those who see how the child is feeling in that environment. If in doubt, it is therefore preschool staff's assessment is decisive.
