When Do I Include a Reference?

  • When you are stating information that someone else has compiled (Norms etc)
  • When you are stating as fact, not opinion (where did this ‘fact’ come from?
  • When you are referring to the work of another author or taking a quote directly from another source. Use “Quotation Marks”

Referencing a Website

Include information in the following order (if available):

  • author (the person or organisation responsible for the site, if known)
  • “Page Name” (In Quotation Marks)
  • Site Name (in italics)
  • year (date created or revised)
  • accessed day month year (the date you viewed the site)
  • URL or Internet address (between pointed brackets). If possible, ensure that the URL is included without a line-break
