Who can help?

Personal Safety

DO:

  • always take your phone and some money with you ( not too much)
  • go out with a friend or in Small groups
  • look for the safe zones in Ilfracombe where you can go for help
  • be careful of English traffic and look right before you cross the roads ( cars drive on the left)
  • be careful of rivers, lakes and muddy banks in Bicclescombe Park
  • be careful when swimming in the sea as there are strong currents and high tides
  • always have your student card with you and wear your wrist band
  • make sure a responsible adult knows where you are at all times.

DON’T:

  • walk close to the edge of cliffs around North Devon as they can be very dangerous
  • keep your wallet in your back pocket, or at the front of your bag
  • ever carry your passport with you
  • ever get into a car with a stranger or hitchhike
  • wear earphones when walking around the school grounds – vehicles turn here often.

Mobile Phones

  • Use your phone to take pictures of new websites, new vocabulary and your work.
  • HOWEVER, you may only use your phones when the teacher allows you to do so.
  • Do NOT go on social media during class. Your phone may be taken away if you do.

Packed Lunches

Your host families provide packed lunches for you. If there is anything you will not eat , put it in the FOOD SWAP BOX. Do not throw food into bin bags. Reduce food waste! Help yourself to extra food from the box if you are hungry.

DO NOT FEED ROLO, MOLLY OR THE SEAGULLS!!!!!!

Seagulls can get aggressive. Sandwiches are not good for dogs.

  • See class information on the board outside room 6
  • See activities information on the board outside the main office.

REMEMBER TO BRING:

  • Pen / pencil
  • Notebook

Host Family

  • Always be polite: say “Please” and “ Thank you”.
  • Keep your room clean and tidy.
  • Respect your host family's home and belongings.
  • Tell your host family where you go at all times.
  • Always be home by curfew time.
  • Be punctual for meals and help to tidy up.
  • Tell your host family what food you like/ don’t like.
  • Practise your English as much as you can

PALS

Who are they?

PALS are local teenagers who help with activities and become friends with Country Cousins students.

Why are they here?

  • For you to communicate with native English speakers of your own age
  • To help you integrate with local people
  • To make international friends.

How can you recognise them?

They wear pink or yellow PALS t-shirts.

Fire Safety

If you hear the alarm:

  • Do NOT stop to collect your things
  • Walk, do NOT run, try to remain calm
  • Follow your teacher to the fire meeting point
  • Do NOT enter the building before Country Cousins’ staff say it is safe
  • Make sure you know the fire route and where the meeting point is ( the car park near the play area in Bicclescombe Park).
