After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, in the 5th Century, Hispania came under the control of the Germanic tribes of vandals, suebi and visigoths.

The muslim conquest (711)

This period, Spain was called Al Andalus.

The muslims were reduced to Granada in the South East. They survived until 1492, when they felt to the Catholic Monarchs.

The Spanish Empire was one of the first global empires and the largest empire in world history. It was alsothe Golden age of the literatura and the arts

19th and 20th Century

During the 19th Century Spain lost all its colonies. There were a lot of revolutions and the first constitution (1812).

In the 20th Century the most important fact was the civil war (1936 – 1939)
