Introduction

We are Writing and solving equations to demonstrate exactly how to solve them. Our main objective is to help understand different types of equations. Each type of equation is completely different and our goal is to help you learn that too.

Equation- A statement that the values of two mathematical expressions are equal ( indicated by the sign =).

Multiplicative Inverse

4x=2/5

Step 1: ¼ 4x=2/5 ¼

step 2: x=2/5 ¼

Step 3: x= 1/10

In mathematics, a multiplicative inverse or reciprocal for a number x, denoted by 1/x or x−1, is a number which when multiplied by x yields the multiplicative identity, 1. The multiplicative inverse of a fraction a/b is b/a.

Addition Property Of Equality

X-¼=2/5

STEP 1: X-¼=2/5

STEP 2: x-¼+¼=2/5 +1/4

Step 3: x=2/5+¼

Step 4: x=13/20

The property that states that if you add the same number to both sides of an equation, the sides remain equal.

Subtraction Property Of Equality & Multiplicative Inverse

15-2/3x=20

Step 1: -15-2/3x=20

Step 2: -2/3x=20

Step 3: -3/2 -2/3x=20

Step 4: x=20/1 -3/2

Step 5: x=-30

Multiplicative Inverse: In mathematics, a multiplicative inverse or reciprocal for a number x, denoted by 1/x or x−1, is a number which when multiplied by x yields the multiplicative identity, 1. The multiplicative inverse of a fraction a/b is b/a.

Subtraction Property of Equality: States that when both sides of an equation have the same number subtracted from them, the remaining expressions are still equal. For example: If 5 = 5, then 5 - 2 = 5 - 2.

Distributive Property & Division Property of Equality

5-2(x-3)=-23

STEP 1: 5-2x-6=-23

STEP 2: 5-6x=-11.5

STEP 3: -6x=-16.5

STEP 4: x=2.75

The Distributive Property is an algebra property which is used to multiply a single term and two or more terms inside a set of parentheses. Take a look at the problem below.

the division property of equality states that if you divide both sides of an equation by the same nonzero number, the sides remain equal.

600oz-3x=500oz-6x

There are two buckets of water with leaks, one bucket has 600 ounces and the water is leaking at 3 ounces per minute, the other bucket has 500 ounces and the water is leaking at 6 ounces per minutes. How many minutes will it take for the buckets to be empty of water?
