What Happens When There Is Too Much Of This Nutrient?

  • Calcium is a macronutrient. It increases ammonium, potassium and phosphorus absorption. Stimulates photosynthesis, and the formation of new cells, and makes the use of nitrogen more efficient. When there is too much calcium in soil a plant’s leaves can look burnt, necrosis at the tips of leaves can occur as well as yellowing between leaf veins on the oldest leaves. Calcium toxicity is rare but it reduces the uptake of other nutrients, causing deficiencies in other areas.

What Happens When There Is A Deficiency Of This Nutrient?

  • When there is a calcium deficiency in soil chlorosis of new leaves, necrosis on the edges of leaves and the death of leaf buds can occur. In tomatoes, squashes and melons blossom end rot, which causes fruit to die at the flower end can occur when there is a calcium deficiency. Stunted plants are often the result of a lack of calcium as it affects root growth and the newest leaves to look hooked.
