MR. DRINNEN

· I have a Bachelors from Xavier University as well

as my Masters from Marygrove

· I teach Religion to 7th and 8th Grade

· One of my favorite things to do is to travel

MRS. GILBERT

🍎 Cincinnati native

🍎 Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Centre College

MAT in Middle School Education, University of Louisville

🍎 11th year teaching, 6th at St. Columban

🍎 Live in Loveland with my husband Matt, an 8th grade Social Studies teacher, our 2 year old daughter, Reese, and our Springer Spaniel

🍎 Washed up collegiate runner who is now most likely to pull a hamstring at water aerobics or dancing to a Taylor Swift Song.

MRS. ZIZELMAN

-Native Ohioan, lived in the 3 Cs, and also Jacksonville, FL for six years

-Currently live in Milford with my husband, Eric, two kids, Maya (12th) and Evan (10th), and two dogs (Boo and Coco)

-18th year teaching: I’ve taught in urban public schools, public online, subbed, and now this is my 9th year at St. Columban!

-Love to cook, read, and be outdoors! I’m a “crazy dance mom”, and a baseball and robotics mom during most of my spare time though!

-Fun fact: Our family tradition is carving an extreme number of pumpkins each fall! My dad started the tradition of planting with the kids and then we carve however many we harvest. Last year we had 113!

MRS. POWELL

  • Indiana native
  • Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education from Ball State University
  • 6th year teaching, 2nd at St. Columban
  • Live in Cincinnati with my husband and our two (very spoiled) cats
  • Fun facts:
    • I’ve tried every flavor of cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory (Very Cherry Ghirardelli Chocolate is the best)
    • I have 15 years of dance experience and a love of musical theatre

MRS. AGUILAR

From Cincinnati, but i’ve lived in Germany and Atlanta, GA

I have a degree in int’l studies and a degree in german

from MIami UNiversity

Substitute since 2003, educational aide since 2018

I have been a flight attendant, a translator and

an accountant, but this is my favorite job!

All 3 of my children (29, 29 and 20) graduated

from St. columban

DRESS CODE AND DISCIPLINE

  • Please help students abide by the following:
    • Appropriate skirt and short length- no more than 3” above knee all the way around
    • Haircuts and color- boys’ hair should be cut above ears, collar and brow line and girls’ hair should be one natural color and out of the face
    • Accessories- no smart watches, makeup, or nail polish
  • Discipline cards should be being brought home every Friday:
    • Please sign weekly- do not pre-fill the card
    • Students should be able to explain any signatures
    • 5 negative signatures results in detention, positive signatures can earn prizes
    • $5 and automatic detention if misplaced
    • New cards are issued the first Monday of the new month

Absence Policy:

  • PLANNED ABSENCE (i.e. Shadow Day):
    • Students are expected to complete in class work by following weekly checklist
    • Students will take any scheduled tests or quizzes the following day
    • Students should touch base with teachers for anything else they missed
  • ILLNESS:
    • FOCUS ON FEELING BETTER!
    • We will NOT complete “homework sheets” from office
    • Please have students work on what they can with materials already at home by checking the weekly checklist, Google Classroom, and Sway for posted materials
    • Students will receive a day for each day they were out to make up work
    • Email homeroom teachers directly if a student needs a specific book sent to office cubbies or home with another student

JUNIOR HIGH SCHEDULE

Eighth Grade:

  • Math and Science in three groups- advanced and two sections of general.
    • English is also seen in these groups, but differentiation takes place within the classes
  • All students take Algebra I
    • Advanced: Full course with Quadratics
    • General: Class needs dictate pacing, designed for students to be well prepared to repeat at honors level in high school
  • WIN Time

Seventh Grade:

  • Math and Science in three groups- advanced and two sections of general.
    • ELA is also seen in these groups, but differentiation takes place within the class.
  • All students take Pre-Algebra
  • WIN Time and Bobcat Bell

Bobcat Bell

  • 7B during Bell 5 and 7A during Bell 7
  • Not designed to be “just a study hall”
    • Review of current assignments and due dates
    • Planner help/ checks - long term studying and project planning help
    • Option C check-ups
    • Communication coaching - emails
    • Dedicated MyPath work time - Monday ELA and Wednesday Math (calculated into grades for those classes)
    • Tudor’s Technology Tidbits - working on skills, slide design, shortcuts, tech organization, typing, etc.
    • Life skills with Mrs. Lombardi
    • Homework help

Buddies!

  • We will pair up with the first grade homerooms for buddies!
    • Attend church and some assemblies together
    • 7th graders are role models for the buddies
    • Holiday get-togethers (typically exchange a SMALL gift at Christmas)

Camp Kern

  • Wednesday, March 18-20
  • Cost for students will most likely be in the $150-$180 price range
  • We will need at least 4 moms and 4 dads for our overnight chaperones; daytime chaperones are also required
    • Priority goes to those who can stay for the entirety of the trip
    • Yes, moms of boys and dads of girls can volunteer for overnights
    • Chaperone requests usually go out in early January, but please hold the date if you are interested!

Passion Play

  • The entire grade will work with Mr. Drinnen through religion class and some extra in-school rehearsals to prepare for our school church service on the Thursday before Easter (March 26).
  • All students will have a role of some sort: voice actors, body actors, readers, choir, are all possibilities
