  • On Sep 21, the Citywide Parent Council (CPC) had meeting with reps from Boston Teachers Union.
  • BTU won COVID safety measures, including: indoor air quality monitors, tents for outdoor meals/activities, contract tracing, pooled testing. See https://btu.org/engage for more info.
  • Air quality monitors should now be installed. Still awaiting answers on how data will be communicated and how any problems will be addressed.
  • Each school should have tents for outdoor meals. Uneven roll-out means families need to advocate.
  • Pooled testing is uneven right now; the company that is conducting the testing is still hiring staff.
  • BTU is now negotiating with district on what remote learning will look like for students (or classes or schools) who have to quarantine.
  • CPC Meetings: 4th Tue / month www.citywideparentcouncil.org
  • BTU: Ari Janz abranz@btu.org / 857-728-4822

Citywide Parent Council Updates /

  • Contacto BTU: Ari Janz abranz@btu.org / 857-728-4822

  • Dr. Copeland has smaller tents & will begin using them to allow for outdoor meals
  • Ventilation inside school - open windows/doors, purifiers, and limited mechanical ventilation. Seems to meet minimum agreed to by BPS and BTU.
  • BPS has pledged to install indoor air quality (IAQ) monitors in every classroom.
  • Questions for us to ask Dr Copeland and BPS:
  • When will installation of IAQ sensors be completed at the JFK?
  • How will we know whether classrooms are achieving adequate ventilation?
  • How will IAQ information be shared in an accessible way to families? Will those data presentations reflect how indoor circumstances may change during eating periods? Across different weather conditions?
  • What is the plan to address classrooms that don’t meet the standards?
  • Group advocating across BPS - “Families for COVID Safety” - contact Sarah Horsley sarah.horsley@gmail.com 617-942-1075
