A globalizing world

• Our country faces a rapidly growing population of Overseas Singaporeans, numbering at a staggering 340751 according to official statistics from the Singaporean government in 2019
• Sometimes a simple video call simply isn't enough to alleviate the pangs of homesickness experienced by those abroad, without reliable contact with their loved ones in Singapore

User research

• We approached our friends and family who are either living overseas or have lived overseas before
• Most brought up issues relating to homesickness, and a craving for local comfort food

What we learned

• Local goods serve as a great remedy for homesickness by reminding people of home
• However, such goods are hard to find overseas
• As a result, overseas singaporeans often ask their relatives to buy and ship their favourite comfort foods to them

What we learned

• From our user journey map, without someone to ‘tompang’ goods on, there is little option but to go with an existing courier service, which can be quite costly
• Consistent exchange of packages abroad can quickly wear down on the budget of both parties, a pain point acknowledged by most of the people we have interviewed
• There is a pressing need to find an affordable alternative

What we learned

• When sending small packages overseas, cost to weight ratio is not optimal
• Consolidating multiple packages meant for the same region abroad into a single delivery could capitalize on bulk shipping savings

Optimising cost to weight ratio

• To alleviate this problem, we had the idea to create a collaborative platform that would allow Singaporeans to organize bulk shipping of packages to their relatives overseas, and vice versa, in a system reminiscent of group buys
• Through this, we will be able to effectively capitalize on bulk shipping rates and keep expenses low
• Introducing:

: A group shipping platform

• SendTogether aggregates deliveries of goods bound for Singaporeans living overseas, or vice versa, for lower costs through bulk shipping via existing courier services
• We also offer predesigned care-packages containing Singaporean food that users can send to friends and loved ones overseas
• Through our services, we hope to be able to provide homesick Singaporeans abroad with a taste of home, at low cost

• Users can check based on location to see if there’s a prior listing to the same destination
• If there are prior listings,�users can join in if they want
