How High School Students
Earn College Credit
What is Dual Credit?
There are two terms, dual credit and dual enrollment, you may hear us use that you might not have heard about before.
What are they?
Dual Credit: This term means that students earn college AND high school credit for the courses that they take through Gateway Technical College.
Dual Enrollment: This means that students are enrolled BOTH in high school and in college at the same time.
…as well as high school students!

Benefits of Dual Credit
The benefits of dual credit are worthwhile. Dual enrollment students tend to have higher academic achievement in high school, greater completion rates of high school, college access and enrollment, college credits earned at no cost and higher rates of college degree completion. In addition, students may be more likely:

Student Success Stories
Student Success Story
It was Hunter’s sophomore year he realized that he could, indeed, graduate from high school and college the same year. “I thought, ‘how cool would that be?’” says Hunter. “I mapped out what I would need to do and then I went out and did it.”
He earned 34 transcripted and Start College Now credits — college credits earned free of charge from Gateway and taught by college instructors at Gateway campuses or at the high school by high school teachers certified to teach Gateway courses — as well as taking about the same amount of courses and paying out of his own pocket at Gateway’s Elkhorn Campus.
