FEATURES OF ARTHROPODS

  1. Live in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial habitats.
  2. Triploblastic, coelomic, and possess jointed limbs (Arthro = jointed, pods = legs).
  3. Body is segmented; segments form functional groups called Tagma (Head, Thorax, Abdomen).
  4. Have a chitinous cuticle on the body, acting as an exoskeleton.
  5. Some possess special wings.
  6. Body shows bilateral symmetry.
  7. Separate male and female organisms (sexual dimorphism).
