Hello,

This slide deck provides an overview of the Speakfully Incident Reporting System at CPS.

This overview is divided into two versions for the following age-groups: elementary and secondary.

CPS also has a reporting system called Speakfully, where you can report the incident that happened.

What types of incidents can I report?

You can report these to your teacher or on Speakfully.

Bullying�

Someone repeatedly causes you harm

Dangerous

A behavior or situation caused you and/or others great harm

Discrimination

Someone causes you �harm because of your race, color, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, �age, disability,etc.

What if I don’t want people to know I made the incident report?

If you don’t want people to know you made �a report, you can make an anonymous �report through Speakfully.

If you make an anonymous report, try to provide as much information as possible. If you do not provide enough information, it can be difficult or even impossible to investigate.

Anonymous means you do not say who you are

When students are named in an incident report, �we have to notify their caregivers.

History: Incident Reporting System

  • Reviewed the work conducted by CRLS student groups
    • Microaggressions Working Group
    • Incident Reporting / Responding Design Team
  • Met with leaders from other districts to learn about and share best practices

Students shared that the lack of anonymity and a sense of distrust discouraged students from reporting concerning incidents.

  • Collaborated with and included the input and feedback from multiple students, educators, and �school and district leaders

What types of incidents can I report?

Bullying

  • Repeated actions that cause physical or emotional harm, fear, creates a hostile environment, or infringes on your rights.
  • This also includes cyberbullying.

Retaliation

  • When a person takes an action against another person because they have asserted their rights
  • Examples include intimidation, threats, coercion, or discrimination

Discrimination/ Harassment

  • Someone causes you �harm because of your race, color, national origin, �ethnicity, ancestry, religion, age, disability,etc.
  • This also includes sexual misconduct/harassment, �or violations of Title IX.

What happens once I submit a report on Speakfully?

  • You can add details and check the status of your report any time using your keycode and password

The Assigned Investigator follows up on the report �and conducts an investigation

The Superintendent’s Office and the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (OEIB) receive the report and assign an investigator depending on the type of incident

Your name is only known by OEIB, the Superintendent’s Office, and the Investigator at this point.

The Investigator will share information as necessary to investigate.

They will only share your name with your permission.

You can give your name, or you can make an anonymous report (see next slide)

IMPORTANT

  • When a report names specific students, the caregivers of those students will be notified.
  • Any specific disciplinary consequences for staff and/or students are confidential by law.

Can I make an anonymous report?

You can add details, check the status of the report and communicate with the investigator anonymously.

The investigator may ask you for more details- this can happen anonymously.

If you make an anonymous report, provide as much information as possible. If you do not provide enough information, it can make it difficult or even impossible to investigate.

You can make a completely anonymous report, since Speakfully is hosted outside CPS.

IMPORTANT

  • Keep your key code and password as this is the only way you will be able to access your report.
  • We cannot provide or reset this information.
