2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

The other day we celebrated Independence Day on the 4^th of July. Although, many people fought and lost their lives, we today living in the United States of America get to experience the freedom for which many lost their loves over. For quite sometime people were fleeing the tyranny of the European power to seek and find religious freedom and prosperity without a government dictating what you could preach and taking the fruits of your labor and hard work.

This year is going to be another Election year, and I encourage our church family to praying for this country that has gone so far away from GOD and His Word. We have a current administration that is negligent or purposefully trying to destroy this nation.

What many have fought for is freedom. Only a few hundred years later we see that we can repeat the same horrors of the past.

[Click] In an article from the Western Reformed Seminary, “The Role of Ministers and Chaplains in America’s War for Independence”…

“The Boston Massacre of 1770, and especially the “intolerable” Quartering

Act of 1774, led many patriots to conclude that their British masters acted more

as overlords than as godly magistrates. At the same time, colonial Christians knew

that they were called to spiritual freedom in Christ (Gal 5.1; 1Pet 2.16-17). The

Bible taught that only God can bind the conscience (Acts 5.29); believers should

be free from superstitions and man-made trappings in religious practice. Should

they not also continue as free citizens in resistance against what they viewed as an

increasingly oppressive rule that was out of touch with its colonies? The British

crown increasingly was denying recognized rights that had been guaranteed to all

Englishmen since England’s Glorious Revolution of 1688.

Reformation teachings had brought many Christian dissidents from Europe

to America’s shores of freedom. Even as biblical teaching had shaped generations

of colonists, the Bible also would be the guiding light in America’s struggle for

independence.

The Continental Congress wanted divine encouragements for its troops. In

July 1775 Congress authorized a paid chaplain for each regiment of the

Continental Army. This measure is considered the beginning of America’s

military chaplaincy.”

A year later, the war for independence was one, and the people got to experience what it was like to be free. More wars for the freedom of every nationality in US were going to be taking place in the US. Although human justice and freedom is limited and not perfect, true and complete freedom is only made possible for the human race through knowing God The Savior, JESUS.

We cannot depend on broken and sinful humanity to do a perfect job. We have been made free in JESUS.

Galatians 加拉太书 5:13-15

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

13 弟兄们，你们蒙召是要得自由，只是不可将你们的自由当做放纵情欲的机会，总要用爱心互相服侍。 14 因为全律法都包在“爱人如己”这一句话之内了。 15 你们要谨慎，若相咬相吞，只怕要彼此消灭了。

Called to Freedom. (Freedom from the chains of sin)

Living in the flesh brings back the chains of sin.

This book of the Bible is addressed to the church, Christians who were scattered around the of Galatia in ancient area of what we today call the nation of Turkey.

Christians were not just up against the oppression of the governments who hated them and wanted them dead, but Christians were also facing the challenges of their own struggles with sin.

Pressure from the sinful culture was bad enough, but some were not living as if they were showing the fruit of someone who had been freed from sin.

Just saying you’re a Christian does not make you a Christian. A true sign of someone who knows the GOD The Savior, Jesus Christ, would have certain fruits or characteristics that reflected someone who walked and followed GOD.

Looking at this part of the chapter, we were “Called to Freedom”. But some say they follow JESUS, but they weren’t acting like it.

Now, there will be times that believers will make mistakes and sin, but that shouldn’t be the consistent fruit of a believer. We neither should condone or accept any form of sinful behavior or attitude. I have heard some say well that is my personality… Well if Jesus has transformed us, we shouldn’t be like that still today.

I think we can make up excuses for ourselves, and allow parts of ourselves to still live in sin. GOD wants that sin gone Christian.

The flesh indeed is weak, but the Spirit of GOD is life and power.

Galatians 加拉太书 5:16-18

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

16 我说，你们当顺着圣灵而行，就不放纵肉体的情欲了。 17 因为情欲和圣灵相争，圣灵和情欲相争，这两个是彼此相敌，使你们不能做所愿意做的。 18 但你们若被圣灵引导，就不在律法以下。

2. Walk (Follow Along) by The Holy Spirit (Not according to the flesh).

Walking and being led by the Spirit, means that that even though you at times may stumble (when you give into the flesh), as a believer consistently you will be known by the product or fruit that only a true follower of JESUS can attain.

Walking and being led by the flesh is the

Therefore if you are walking and being led by the Holy Spirit you are not living condemned under the law of GOD.

The flesh would tell us that we have liberty to live how we want to, even if its in direct disobedience to GOD, but someone who truly knows the LORD JESUS, will not be able to stay living in the flesh. It doesn’t mix.

Water and Dye = Flesh/Worldliness/Sin/Someone without JESUS (it mixes with the sin easily)
Oil = Someone who knows JESUS… All believers have the HOLY SPIRIT living inside of them… (SIN DOESN’T Mix)

*The two elements are in conflict with each other. Christian, If you belong to JESUS, you wont be able to operate in that fleshly sin for very long before GOD gives you some discipline and change.

Look at the characteristics of the flesh:

Galatians 加拉太书 5:19-21

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

19 情欲的事都是显而易见的，就如奸淫、污秽、邪荡、 20 拜偶像、邪术、仇恨、争竞、忌恨、恼怒、结党、纷争、异端、 21 嫉妒、醉酒、荒宴等类。我从前告诉你们，现在又告诉你们：行这样事的人必不能承受神的国。

3. Fruit of the Flesh Produces Sin.

In Christ we are Freed from the curse of sin, Not to live in the Flesh anymore.

Sexual Immorality: (Pornea) Any form of sensuality outside of how GOD designed.

Impurity and Debauchery: A lewdness and indulgence in things with your body that are inappropriate and wicked.

Idolatry: where you worship something or someone in the place of the Creator GOD.

Witchcraft: the use or the administering of drugs, poisoning, sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it.

Hatred

Discord: to cause problems

Fits of rage (Anger): (thymós) passion, angry, heat, anger forthwith boiling up and soon subsiding again… SOMEONE who lives unstable easily angered or upset. Happy one day and bitter the next, they leave others feeling uneasy

Selfish Ambition: Self promoting.

… That is the fruit of the world, the flesh. It brings destruction. No matter how you try to make something sinful appear to be good, it will always be destructive in the end.

We should never be ok with this and careful we aren’t accepting of it in our lives.

Matthew 7:17-20

17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Galatians 加拉太书 5:19-21

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

22 圣灵所结的果子，就是仁爱、喜乐、和平、忍耐、恩慈、良善、信实、 23 温柔、节制；这样的事没有律法禁止。 24 凡属基督耶稣的人，是已经把肉体连肉体的邪情私欲同钉在十字架上了。

25 我们若是靠圣灵得生，就当靠圣灵行事。 26 不要贪图虚名，彼此惹气，互相嫉妒。

4. The Fruit of The Spirit is FREEDOM (flesh leads to chains)

It’s the opposite of the flesh.

The flesh destroys, but the Spirit gives life.

Which kind of Fruit are you bearing in your life?

This passage is one that as a Christian we have probably heard many times, but do you live in the flesh? Do you allow your flesh to dictate your feelings? What about your impulses? Have you fully surrendered your life to JESUS?

I believe a genuine follower of Jesus can struggle in sin at times, but do we allow our lives to be run by it.

I have family that their life is full of bitterness. Maybe it extends from situations with others in the family, or unmet expectations that were not known… but they don’t come around for any family events. They claim Jesus but they harbor bitterness and negativity that impacts every relationship. They are extremely sensitive and you won’t know if you will offend them. This causes a fake relationship, and a trustworthy one.

They have reached a point where everyone around they will always find something wrong with a person.

It’s a choice to forgive, and communicate.

I have also been impacted Christians who show a love that to even people who harm them. They see the people

Someone doesn’t have to say sorry to you for you to start working on forgiving them. Forgiveness does not mean you blindly trust them, that requires work, but to forgive them and not harbor a bitterness towards them frees you from the sin you may allow in your own heart.

There are Christians who can hold onto anger and offense to the point they can hate faithful brothers and sisters in their hearts.

There is no room for the fruit of the flesh in Christs church.

What kind of tree are you, and are you bearing the fruit of the Spirit n your life? I want you to think about that question and ask the Holy Spirit to help you work on it.

If you say you love JESUS and know HIM, what kind of fruit are you growing as a result. The Fruit of the Spirit is the sign that you are walking with HIM.

If you feel you have things to confess to GOD and to ask HIM for help to overcome your struggle of sin, I encourage you to do so. Only then can you be free from living in the flesh and then only begin to show the fruit of freedom that comes from walking by the Spirit.

If its repenting to GOD, do it. If its forgiving a person, work on it. If its asking for forgiveness, ask for it from the one you hurt. The church of GOD is not made up of perfect people, but its made up of many people who love and serve the perfect GOD. We are made free because of JESUS.

We need to stop acting like the worldly culture and begin to walk in the Spirit. Only a person of pride can say they are doing perfectly well in all areas. When an entire church family begins to work on this, you will see that church blossom.
