Toy Based Pedagogy (TBP) is in alignment with the NEP 2020 and Prime Minister’s vision of “Vocal For Local“.

  • NEP 2020 has provided for a definitive shift by focusing on play-based learning for the foundational and preparatory years and TBP will help in achieving it.

​

  • TBP accentuates other aspects of the NEP 2020, for instance rooting curriculum and pedagogy in the ethos of Indian culture (for eg Understanding the importance of Seva Bhav and a sense of responsibility would help them become good citizens in the future,pg 4 VP) and bringing out the unique potential of children.

  • ‘VIDYA PRAVESH— Three-month Play-based School Preparation Module for Grade-I has been developed as per the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The intent is to ensure that all children are exposed to a warm and welcoming environment when they enter Grade-I, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to their smooth transition to school.

  • The play-based pedagogy is a significant aspect of the module that plays a vital role in providing stimulating learning opportunities for the children, creating a joyful and stress-free environment, and addressing the learning needs of the children with special needs or disabilities.

  • According to Brahmavalli (Taittreya Samhita), the five-fold development of human beings is to attain all-round refinement of human personality, known as Panchkosh; namely Annamay Kosh (Physical Development); Pranmay Kosh (Vital Development); Manomay Kosh (Mental Development); Vigyanmay Kosh (Cognitive Development); and Anandmay Kosh (Spiritual Development), all of which have to start from the earliest stages of development and learning.
  • TBP can help educators bring about holistic development in their students.

  • TBP also underscores the importance of promoting rural and indigenous crafts, and boosting the indigenous toy industry and highlights. The importance of toy-based pedagogy lies in helping children think, rethink and reimage/reimagine the world.

Although there is no clear-cut definition of 21st-century skills yet broadly these are some skills that one must have to live in this technologically advanced global environment. These are the skills that are required by an individual for his/ her holistic development so that he/she can contribute to the progress and development of his society/ nation and world.

  • Learning Skills (4Cs) : Critical Thinking, Creativity & Innovation, Collaboration, Communication.

  • Allow them space for critical thinking.

  • Let emotional intelligence flourish.

  • Help minimize behavioral disruptions by constructive engagement.

  • Aim at contributing successfully to sustainable skills, including flexibility, self-confidence and intercultural competence.

  • Prepare your students to be future-ready. The trick is to consider curriculum content as a way to teach skills with the help of TBP.
