Portwine stain�(Nevus Flammeus)�

  • Capillary Malformation
  •  Persist Throughout Life
  • May Be Part Of Sturge–weber Syndrome Or Klippel–trénaunay–weber Syndrome

Capillary Hemangiomas�

  • Infantile / juvenile hemangiomas,
  • Hemangioblastomas
  • Strawberry nevi
  • Grow up to the age of 12 months and then shrink in size between 12 and 15 months of age. 
  • Most go away nearly completely by 5 or 6 years of age

Mongolian spots�

  • Blue or slate grey macular lesions.
  • 80% in black, Asian and east Asian.
  • Less than 10% in whites.
  • Fade during first few years of life.
  • Malignancy does not occur.
  • Must differentiate from abuse or bruises.

Hypopigmented / Ash Leaf Spot

  • Solitary lesions commons.
  • If >1 lesion present at birth, check for tuberous sclerosis.
  • Max. of 3 such lesion can occur in normal.

Café-au-lait macules – CALMs�

  • Flat, brown macules or patches, can darken with sun exposure
  • Present at birth.
  • Mostly benign, may be associated with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Congenital Melanocytic Nevi�

  • Present at birth or develop shortly after birth.
  • Categorized by Size:
    • Small - <1.5 cm
    • Medium - 1.5-20 cm
    • Large - >20 cm.
  • Large nevi are associated with an increased risk of melanoma.

Erythema Toxicum Neonatorum

  • Appears 24-72 hrs of birth.
  • Small macules that quickly becomes papules surrounded by halo.
  • Do not occur In palms And soles.

Transient pustular melanosis

  • Pustules noticeable At Birth.
  • On Rupture, cause white-encircled dark spots.
  • Fade slowly.

Milia ��

  • Benign, keratinous cysts, 1-3 mm white to yellow papules.
  • If on the face - Milia.
  • If on gum margin - Bohn nodules
  • If on midline palate - Epstein pearls

Miliaria��

  • Heat rash, prickly heat, or sweat rash.
  • Sweat-filled vesicles under the skin
  • Caused by blocked eccrine sweat glands and ducts.
  • There are three further types:
    • Crystalline
    • Rubra
    • Profunda
