Tardy/Locker/Bathroom Policies and Procedures

Tardy Policy

Tardy (def.) - late; after the expected or usual time.

  • Pick up breakfast on the way to class. You will not be able to leave class to get breakfast, and instead will have to get it during the next passing period. (breakfast is available until 9:30)

  • Please arrive at the lunchroom on time! If you are late, you’ll be expected to owe the first ten minutes in lunch detention.

  • If you are eating lunch in a teacher’s classroom, you have to get a pass from the teacher BEFORE arriving in the MPR.

Locker Advice

  • Keep your combination to yourself! Don’t share it with anyone.

  • Bring all necessary materials to class. Leave what you don’t need in your locker. Backpacks are to be stored in lockers. Do not bring them to class.

  • If you forget something, you’ll have to use one of your passes to go get it. (You are allowed 9 per quarter.)

When can I use the bathroom?

  • You are encouraged to use the bathroom before school, during your passing periods, or while at lunch (5 minutes each).
  • You will also have nine hall passes to use each quarter for restroom use.
  • If you run out of passes or lose them, an escort will walk you there and back to class.

Cell Phones & Earbuds

  • Cell phones and earbuds need to be powered off and put away between 8:00 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.
  • If a staff member observes you with your phone out, in class or in the hallway, Mr. Nico or Mr. Drew will take it and safely store it in the office vault for the day.
  • You will be placed on a phone contract after the third occurrence. This requires you to store your phone in the office during the school day.

Lunchroom Expectations

  • Be on time, seated at a lunch table before the tardy bell rings. If you are late to lunch, then you will owe time.
  • If you plan to eat in a teacher’s room, you must have a pass before you get to the MPR. If you forget the pass, you’ll stay in the MPR.
  • Stay in your seat until you are called up to the lunch line. Do no switch seats or wander from table to table.
  • You will be dismissed by table based on the cleanliness of your area.
  • Thank your servers!

Dress Code

  • Hats and other head coverings including bandanas, must be removed upon entering the school unless otherwise approved by an administrator.
  • Skirts, shorts and dresses must meet the length requirement approved by school personnel (at fingertip length).
  • Low cut, mesh, or otherwise revealing shirts are not permitted.
  • All clothing must cover the midriff as well as all undergarments.
  • Saggy pants are not permitted.

  • Outer garments, including heavy coats and jackets may not be worn in classrooms.
  • All clothing containing logos and advertisements must be school appropriate.
  • Weather appropriate, closed-toed shoes, are recommended for safety purposes
  • Eyewear, earbuds, chains and any other items not used for an academic purpose must be stowed.

Counselor Visits

To request to see a counselor:

  • Grab a slip and fill it out. Slips are located in the green folder in each classroom.
  • Return your request slip to the front office.
  • Ms. Gonzales (7th) and Ms. Besh (8th) will contact you as soon as they are available.
  • IF it is an emergency, please let your teacher know and they will contact us directly.

You can always message counselors on Canvas with questions or visit requests.

Nurse Visits

  • The nurse will accept visitors who arrive with a pass from their classroom teacher.
  • Visit the nurse if you are:
    • Taking regular medication/are diabetic
    • Injured
    • Experiencing an allergic reaction
    • Experiencing infectious symptoms
      • Fever, chills, coughing, shortness of breath, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, abdominal pain, vomiting, rash, red eyes, diarrhea

Reset Zone

  • Purpose - connect with students, especially when in need of behavioral, emotional, and/or social support.
  • How you could end up in the RZ.
    • Self-Select: Ask for AND receive permission from your teacher. They will send you with a lanyard pass.
      • Usually limited to 10-15 minutes.
    • Get Sent: Teacher sends you out for a conference/reflection so that we can work on fixing whatever is getting in the way of your success or the success of others.
      • Escorted security or other staff.

Reset Zone (cont’d)

What do we do in the RZ?

  • Student completes a reflection online, answering questions about what happened and why.
  • Student reviews their reflection responses with the Mrs. Halseth/security, making a game-plan about how to move forward constructively and successfully.
  • Student and Ms. Halseth arrange a conversation with the referring teacher.
  • Reminder: if you are sent out of class, your parent/guardian will be contacted by your teacher, the Mrs. Halseth, or both.

Drills and Evacuations

Earthquake

If you feel the earth shaking:

1. DROP to the ground.

2. COVER your head and neck with one hand and get under a desk or table.

3. HOLD ON to the desk or table leg so that the desk or table will stay over you.

Evacuation

  • Move rapidly, but do not run, in a calm and organized manner exiting the building.
  • All students should proceed to a minimum distance of at least 100 feet from the building to a preplanned area and remain there in order to give the firefighting equipment room to operate safely.
  • All students are expected to become thoroughly familiar with the fire drill exit route posted in each room.

Lockdown

  • An announcement will signal that the school is going into a lockdown.
  • Students in the halls need to quickly find the nearest classroom.
  • Students should remain calm and follow instructions from the teacher, which may include duck and cover away from doors and windows, turning off classroom lights, laying on the floor and being silent.
  • Students are to remain in their classroom until given further instructions.
  • If classes are outside they are to come inside the building to a preplanned safe area.
  • If the intruder enters the building ALICE protocols will be initiated.

ALICE

  • Students should remain calm and follow instructions from the teacher, which may include duck and cover away from doors and windows, turning off classroom lights, laying on the floor, barricading the door and being silent, evacuating or even countering if the intruder enters the room.
  • Students who are outside should not re-enter the building but should proceed directly to the rally point while staying away danger.

Stay Put

  • An announcement will be made indicating individuals are to stay put.
  • The outer doors to the building should all be locked. Teachers may lock their doors, take roll of the students in their room and continue class as normal.
  • Passing between classes is allowed, but up to the principal or teacher in charge.
  • If classes are out of the building, they are to immediately come inside the building to a preplanned safe area.
  • Wait for an all-clear to be given before resuming normal activities.
