For our problem, we find the relationship between the increasing use of internet which builds a parallel digital identity for individuals, like a digital twin. In this journey, there is a need to represent some sort of ideal or perfect representation of our lives. Delving deeper into this connection, it is seen that the anonymity and control provided by the digital age, increases the gap between the real life and digital life. Gradually, the importance of real life being trumped by the digital existence.

At the outset, the larger relationship between self representation and digital existence seems to be one of choice and empowerment, it is in fact defined by the standards of beauty which determines and informs the behaviour patterns of individuals. Therefore, the initial problem with self-confidence and insecurity starts being shifted towards ideas of perfection defined by a new digital age.

The Vanity Vault - a Dystopian Future of Beauty

The wish to be better and better digitally distances individuals from themselves and their real lives, creating further isolation from their physical environment, society and community. This creates further involvement in digital. To visualise the ‘Escalation’ that takes places through seemingly indirect connections, we formulated a speculative scenario in the future.

Beauty in the eyes of the beholder,

A concept as old as time itself,

But what is that makes a face grow bolder,

And why do some beauty standards sell?

Is it the symmetry of features so fair.

Or the curves that deviate from the norm?

Is it the shade of the skin that we should care,

Or the colour of eyes like a storm.

Thank You
