Ever dreamt of creating your own original superhero with his or her own special set of superpowers? You’re not alone. In this companion to The Rise of Superheroes & Their Impact on Pop Culture, we will lead you through the process of envisioning your own superhero, using your culture and contemporary social and political issues as the seeds of inspiration.
From there you will devise an alter ego and backstory for your superhero. Who are they when they’re not super? And of course, your hero will need a foil, a super villain. What powers does your super villain possess? And how do they reflect the conflicts in today’s world?

Too much of a trickster:
Another analysis made, legend says that he is very competitive or likes to play tricks on people, which can obviously be a great weakness. For example, legend says that the only person that was able to ride Puca as a horse was Brian Boru, King of Ireland, so in return he was asked by the King not to harm the people of ireland, also including christians. He usually underestimates everyone.

I live in Ecuador, South America. One of the most silent yet biggest problems we have in our beautiful country is Wildlife Smuggling, where mobs of poachers and smugglers traffic illegally many exotic species, and even endangered species. The Wildlife Smuggling Black Market is the 4th largest illegal market according to Interpol, and one of the main targets of the industry is here.�Smugglers take exotic and endangered animals from the country to sell them as pets, sell them as meat, or to circuses.
The Galapagos Islands and the Amazon Rainforest are the most targeted places in the country.
The Government and other Organizations are trying to fight this big mafia, even the Sea Shepherds nor have presence in the Galapagos Islands. People are trying to break the silence in domestic animal abuse too by creating the LOBA initiative, which is a legal project to protect animals.

Boomcat’s main superpower is the ability to make his left arm take any shape he wants. It is composed by millions of nanobots forming a prosthetic shapeshifting arm. He has 9 favorite forms he mostly uses and even given a name to each one.

Don’t they? Water doesn’t hurt Boomcat but he does hate it. It makes him angry and desperate, quickly loses focus. Another disadvantage is he loses control to laser pointers, toy mice, and yarn balls.
Eventually he will have to release a furball in battle too.
ARM HAS BATTERYLIFE:�Technology isn’t perfect, the Nanobots that conform Boomcat’s arm also have flaws. They need to recharge, boom cat can use his hand transformations 5 minutes until he has to recharge for 5 minutes to use again. When charging they go to Boomcat’s default left arm form.

It’s time to start putting it all together! After recapping their SUPERPOWERS AND WEAKNESSES, write your character’s ORIGIN STORY. Highlight the SUPERHERO NAME and replace it with your character’s original name. Then, go to Insert > Photo > Picture from file to add an image or digital sketch of your superhero. (Remember this can be something you created by hand or on a program like Heromachine.) Keep in mind this is a project about creativity, not artistic skill, so do your best to share your superhero in an interesting and engaging way.

An alien kitten of the Felinan planet lands on earth in an escape pod. When escaping the pod the kitten has no memory and lives as a normal kitten on earth, although he can speak human language and even change shape his left arm in any way he pleases. The cat is kidnapped to forcefully work in The Circus Clan, a clan of circus people who dedicated themselves to organised crime too.
That’s where the name Boomcat arrives, it was his stage name. Boomcat escapes from the circus leaving his friend behind making him want to fight crime as Boomcat.

Albie is a smart and curious cat, he is a cocky cat and a fast thinker. He is a bad example to follow, he can sometimes be rude yet sweet. He likes to read comics and has a big imagination. He enjoys pranking and outsmarting people. He is a jolly weird cat but is often tormented by his past at the Circus Clan.
Albie is just a common cat that lives with a strange man called Wallace. They play music together. Wallace is trying to teach Albie about peace.
Albie was born in a spaceship far away, a spaceship that contained the last of the Felinan Kind. Their ship was under attack so his parents tried to escape with their newborn Albie. While escaping Albie’s parents and Albie’s left arm got stuck in debris, so Albie’s mother cuts his arm off and throws him into an escape pod. In the Escape pod, the pod was equipped with survival and very high tech. The emergency services of the pod place a prosthetic arm composed of nanobots. While coursing to a nearby planet, the pod goes through a magnetic storm, altering Albie’s nanobots, and his conscience making him lose his memory and lose its course; making the pod lose the way and eventually crash on earth. Albie wakes up with no memory in a river, and is found and raised by an old man named Anton. When Anton dies, Albie takes a journey as a street cat around the world.

Very far away, in a mystic galaxy, known for having advanced civilisations built by what here on earth we know as animals, there is a planet called Catmao, which is made entirely by highly intelligent cats known as the Felinans. The galaxy has been in a war for so long, many cannot even remember why it started. Sadly the Felinan race and Planet Catmao are basically extinct due to war, however many survivors escaped the planet and have been living on a big spaceship, defended by Gacrux, a Felinan who is considered a superhero. Gacrux when not in battle he was a Felinan Scientist named Niko, who was married to another scientist named Gatu.
Our hero's story begins with him being born in the spaceship, small kitten born from Gatu and Niko, however this kitten is a special kitten, he was 1 of 4 kittens that were conceived normally but genetically manipulated by scientists to come up with a new warrior breed. A week after the kitty is born, a nearby ship from another planet begins to savagely attack the Felinan spaceship. Felinans ran everywhere in chaos. Immediately Gacrux launches into battle to defend the spaceship and his people. Gatu and her baby kitten were trying to reach the escape pods, however debris falls right at the escape pod's entrance and ends up trapping Gatu and the small kitten in the debris. Gatu had half of her body inside, while the baby kitten had his left arm (front leg) trapped under the debris.
The Felinan spaceship began to explode, Gatu crying just kisses her kitten's forehead, cuts his arm with some metal debris, and throws him into the escape pod, launching him into space. As the escape pod is floating away, the Catmao spaceship explodes.

Origin Story, Part II: The Storm and the Old Man
Three days have passed and our kitty hero is floating in space, the escape pod is a high tech survival vessel, with an auto-course set to a known nearby ally planet. During the journey, the medical machines were treating the kitty making him a new prosthetic arm composed by millions of nanobots to give the most natural movement. While surgery is going on, the pod goes through a harsh magnetic storm along with solar flares. This corrupts the machinery and the nanobots making them lose control, as the pod also violently moves trying to continue the kitten is damaged in the head causing him to faint and amnesia. The magnetic storm causes the pod to be heavily damaged and leaving only basic systems on, however it has now lost its course and is heading directly to earth. Eventually the pod reaches earth and crashes into a river called Kama River, near Perm - Russia, a city located near the Ural mountains. The pod opens by itself and begins to sink. The kitten is later found in the river bed in the forest by an old man named Anton, who named the kitten Albert, who he’d mainly call Albie. Time kept passing, Anton was amazed with Albie’s abilities, he could speak human language, and shapeshift his left arm into many things. Anton did teach him that those abilities would not be a good idea to show around. But time does not pass in vain, just 6 months later Anton died of age. Albie was left all alone so he left on a journey to know more about himself. He was a talking street cat, with an arm that for some reason could take any shape he wanted. He did not know yet, but the magnetic and solar storms in space actually influenced the nanobots and his brain for him to change his arm into any shape he wants.

Origin Story, Part III: The Circus Clan
Albie now knows how rough life is, he made it all the way to Moscow, resisting hunger, cold, abuse, etc. One night at Moscow, he was hungry, tired, and cold, but all of a sudden he kept hearing a catchy tune, and a smell of buttery popcorn. Albie quickly followed the sound and smell and suddenly sees a huge colorful circus tent lit up and warm inside. Albie in a very stealthy way tries to get inside to steal some food and rest, but is quickly caught by Mister K., the circus Ringmaster. Mister K puts Albie in a cage and was gonna get rid of him until he sees his special arm. Albie tried to resist transforming his arm into a hammer, however he is quickly controlled by Mister K’s whip.
Mister K. decided to give Albie a chance, and kept him as part of the circus. Albie’s performance was to shapeshift his arm and do crazy things, his stage name was Boomcat. Sadly the Circus was known as The Circus Clan, they weren't a normal circus, they were also an organised crime guild, who were into human and animal trafficking. Albie had to serve as a criminal in order to survive. Mister K mistreated everybody forcing them to work, and whipping anyone because he felt like it. Mister K. also had his “special force” called the “Top Freaks” who were his special order of minios with higher abilities than anyone else.
The Circus Clan had the custom of kidnapping people and animals to sell them as slaves. One day in Lyon - France, they kidnapped a little girl named Sadie. While Sadie was crying in the train wagon that transported the circus, Albie cuddled with her trying to make her feel better. A few weeks passed and Albie decided to convince Mister K. not to sell Sadie, and that she could be a circus Acrobat, and so it went that way. Albie and Sadie grew a beautiful friendship, always looking one after another, trying to survive everyday in The Circus Clan. One night in Manaus - Brazil, they tried to escape the Circus so they can start a life together in liberty, however almost out they are caught. Mister K. grabs Sadie’s leg, and Albie’s tail.
Albie shifts his arm to a claw and scratches Mister K’s face, but leaving Albie free. However Sadie was taken by one of the Top Freaks. Albie made a promise he would come back for Sadie.

Origin Story, Part IV: Rise of a Hero
A few years have passed since The Circus Clan incident, Albie continued as a street cat wandering around South America, tormented by the fact that he left his friend Sadie with The Circus Clan. Eventually Albie ended in Quito - Ecuador. Albie was the type of cat that stole from tourists and tried to make a living in the streets. One night, he was near Ejido Park, a famous park where people sell their art during the day. At this time of the night there was one strange man putting away a painting that had a bowl of soup, and a fork next to it. Albie was trying to jump the man and steal his valuables so he could trade for food. However, two men violently hit the strange man, but the strange man did nothing to fight back, all he said was “Take everything, It is just material things, just make it fast, I wish you a good night”. The two thugs started laughing and decided to hit him with a bat just for fun. Albie reacts and shifts his arm to a HUGE arm punch shaped, and begins to pummel the two thugs, he ends up screaming at them in spanish, that’s when the two thugs think it’s a “Chupacabras” and run away for their lives.
Albie goes to see the strange man in the ground who was injured. The strange man’s name is Wallace, an artist from Camdem Town (London) who came to live in Quito as inspiration and willing to meditate and find peace.
Wallace and Albie begin to get along amazingly, quickly Albie was adopted as Wallace’s cat, of course Wallace saw him more as a roommate since he knew his secret of shapeshifting and talking human languages. They shared a small apartment in Guapulo, a small sector in Quito where many artists live.
Albie was curious for the things Wallace did, as was Wallace interested on why Albie was so troubled.
Both of them started to learn from each other, as Wallace trained Albie to learn about Peace in his mind and soul, also showing him the way of good.
Albie convinced and of course misunderstanding decides to be a defender of good, however punishing evil no matter the cost. “I like to make the bad guys go Boom” was one of his slogans, and decides to craft himself a suit and begins to use his stage-name Boomcat to fight crime.
Boomcat the superhero is born.

Write them up as well as a rationale for why you chose them to be the antagonist in your story. Yet he is a very intellectual man and also admits his misbehavior, even saying things like society cannot have someone like him.

Superpower: He is very persuasive, can manipulate people to do or feel whichever way he wants. Also a genius, he can calculate anything in a matter of seconds. A master with his whip.
Weakness: He is weak, he doesn’t have strength of his own so he is quite fragile. He also loses control and alters himself when listening to forks or knives scratch a plate.
Kyte Rigby, born in Manchester. A small child with a rough
childhood. After years of physical and verbal abuse by his father, Kyte kills his father and runs away. The child was very intelligent and lived in the streets wandering in trains.�One day Kyte hops on a Circus Train, full of Circus Freaks, where he had to earn his respect. Eventually Kyte started working on the Circus and gained everyone’s respect. This was no ordinary Circus, they liked to kidnap people and animals to sell them as slaves. Kyte was ery good with the whip, so he was considered key to the Circus’ operations. One night he kills the Ringmaster, Kyte puts on the Ringmaster’s hat, and claims himself as the new leader of The Circus Clan, telling everyone his new name would be Mister K. The Ringmaster. Also making an elite force also known as “The Top Freaks”

You can chose any place in their history to set this story, e.g. the first time they come into conflict, a ‘high point’ in their overall story arc (rescuing their beloved from the foul clutches of their dastardly foe, foiling their master plan to take over the world, etc.) or whatever else strikes your fancy. Remember, this project is all about creativity so have fun with it.
INSTRUCTIONS
The city of Quito, Ecuador. Crime has risen with the rise of The Circus Clan, a group of "self-proclaimed freaks" are causing chaos. The Circus Clan operates as a Circus, but also kidnap children and animals to either recruit them, sell them, or exploit them. The Circus Clan is leaded by Mister K. along with his faithful team of "Top Freaks" which include Maxwell the Clown, Sadie the Acrobat, Jojo the Juggler, Doctor Robert the Magician, and Lucy the mystic.
Years ago, Albie the cat was a performer and criminal at The Circus Clan, he was exploited due to having his special shapeshifting arm, he was close friends with a small kidnapped child called Sadie. They once tried to escape the circus, start a new life, and be free. However things did not go as expected, they were caught, Albie was able to escape by shifting his arm to claw mode and slashing Mister. K.'s face badly leaving a scar, but Sadie stayed behind.
Now Sadie is part of the "Top Freaks" and hates Albie the Cat for leaving her behind.
Mister. K. has been pursuing Albie for a long time so he returns to The Circus Clan. After finally finding a way to force him to come back, Mister. K. is taking a huge amount of hostages to his Circus Tent and is willing to kill them all is Albie or "Boomcat" arrives and turns himself in.

CONFLICT
Boom-Cat arrives to The Circus Clan's main tent, where Mister. K. has a special surprise for him. The setting was inside the Circus tent, right on the ring. From the audience seats there was no seat empty, it was all filled with hostages who were tied to their seats. Apparently Boomcat was gonna be part of the main event of the night.
All lights turn off and Mister.K. appears announcing the special event, where Boomcat would have to face all of the remaining "Top Freaks" with the audience/hostages watching, if Boomcat loses all the hostages die, and, he also has 60 minutes to beat them all or, a bomb will explode killing absolutely everyone. "IT'S GONNA BE A BLAST" -Mister. K. says. If Boomcat wins, he would be able to save the hostages.
The fight begins, Boomcat had already beaten Jojo and Doctor Robert, so he begins with Lucy the Mystic. Ablie takes down Lucy, in about 10 minutes, and now is followed by Maxwell, the insanely strong Clown with his Silver hammer. Boom-Cat has an epic fight with Maxwell but takes him 40 minutes to "kill".
Sadie was next, the time came where the two former best friends had to fight. Boomcat at first refused to fight and was only defending himself, while Sadie desperately attacked him in rage. Rage for abandoning her, and to prove him she did fine, that she is an elite of The Circus Clan. While fighting Sadie, Albie tried to explain to her it wasn't his fault, that he cannot live in peace since that day, Sadie refuses to listen and continues to attack.
Mister. K. interrupts the fight by whipping Sadie away from the ring. "Let me finish this myself before you get too sensitive dearie" and begins to attack Boomcat.
5 minutes remaining in the clock. Mister. K's agility and whip domination has Boomcat struggling, and also worried with the clock ticking.
Boomcat manages to trap Mister. K.'s whip with his Cat-Copter arm (Helicopter form), quickly changes his shape to a giant fist (Cat-pow) and punches Mister.K. harshly leaving him knocked out.
The clock keeps ticking, with 1 minute remaining, Boomcat switchers to Cat-Copter to reach the bomb which was hanging from the top of the Circus Tent. Suddenly a whip grabs Boomcat’s leg. Mister. K. is holding the whip laughing insanely, not caring and willing to explode with the circus as long as he kills Boomcat.
The Bomb for some reason is deactivated, while the clock turns off Mr.K. looks at it, giving Albie to shift his arm to Cannon (Cat-non) and shoots down directly to Mr. K.

RESOLUTION
A cannonball directly to Mr. K. is fired by Boomcat causing major damage to the ring and of course killing Mr. K. Albie quickly flies to the deactivated bomb and destroys it, then runs to the hostages and realizes they are ok, quickly leaving the scene leaving the hostages tied so they can be rescued by the police who would arrive any time soon.
Outside the tent Boomcat collapses in the floor to rest. Suddenly he sees Sadie.
"You are free now Sadie" - Albie said.
"Save it fur-ball, i'd kill you right now but there is no honor in killing someone being collapsed and tired. You still betrayed me, so we will fight sometime again" - Sadie said.
“You deactivated the bomb right?” -Albie asked.
“I did, I didn’t think all those hostage’s were worth killing for a stupid game K created,�anyways, that is none of your business, I will return and have your head Albert.” Sadie said as she walked away.
Albie faintly begins to walk away down a lonely road, with the sunrise in the horizon.
"I'm just a cat in a world of humans... like a fork in a world of soup"
Meanwhile behind a palm tree a strange being in robes…
“I found him” it said.

I added this slide so I could thank all the Instructors, the Smithsonian, and even my fellow students who took the course.
This course is something I strongly needed to believe in myself and realize that no matter where in the world you are, if you keep going, you may end up making a new Superhero for the world!
It’s been such a great experience learning everything about comic books, and now, more than ever, I can realize the importance of Comics in world history, and now even consider it Modern Mythology.
Thank you to all the fellow students that during the course shared their projects, their opinions, and even had a good laugh with them! It was a brilliant community.
A huge thanks to Prof. Uslan, David, Felipe, Deb, Tom, Craig, Sam, Ross, Phillip, Heath, the curators at the museum, and of course, Stan Lee; all for sharing amazing information, experiences, and even inspiring newcomers like us. I hope you all enjoy Boomcat, he was made with all the love and dedication one can have when you create something.�He came in a moment all of a sudden, and is here to stay. Boomcat is a lot of fun but I also wanna throw in a message to the world about animal and child abuse (Albie & Sadie) and how instead of feeling sad for them, we can feel awesome about then, Sadie was left in the circus, somehow she made it, in bad steps probably, but she made it. Same goes for Albie, never give up, keep trying, there is always something you can do! Why the prosthetic arm? That’s also something I wanted to push forward, I actually got inspired for Boomcat’s arm because I was at the park and saw a 3 legged dog, he was racing an Akita, and with only 3 legs HE WAS FAST! There’s no limits as long as you put your heart and fun into it!
I would also like to give a special shout out to those from POPX1.1, Also for Alison, Walter, Gigi, Spatial, Robert, part of so many people that gave their support for Boomcat and this amazing course!
