Notes for Teachers

  • This lesson takes place in a classroom for one or more hours.
  • Students may work in pairs.
  • Some students don’t know what a skit look like so please show some good examples.
  • Also introduce to students digital graphic design and applications (but with emphasis to Canva) that they can use to make the comic skits. If they know anything else, ask them to share it in class.
  • During presentation, facilitate reflection of the importance of keystone species presented.

List of Materials:

  • Student Chromebook or other devices with access to Canva or other graphic design apps

A keystone species is an organism that helps hold the ecosystem together and without them, the ecosystem may not survive.

Differentiation

One way to differentiate in this lesson is to show the Canva video again about creating a Comic Skit if the students are having trouble in making the skit.

Another option is to elicit student ideas on example keystone species that they can easily have in their skits. Have students search more information about them.

Remediation

Extension

Students who are successful right away can plan and improve their skit, the dialogues most especially. Let them review the rubric and see if the elements in their skit are aligned to it.
