Chapter 1, page 2

"And even in the open one stayed behind the other" (pg 2).

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

My response to these words is they are showing a sense of being respectful to each other. This quotation shows me that Lennie respects George so much that he walks behind him. Lennie trails behind George because George in the leader and Lennis the follower. George protects and teaches Lennie, like a teacher, so Lennie follows behind like a student or a child. This quote shows that George is in charge and Lennie follows George's directions.

Chapter 6, page 101

"She stood in front of Lennie and put her hands on her hips, and she frowned disapprovingly at him" (pg 101).

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

This quote is from a memory Lennie is having while he sits and waits for George to come. He knows George is going to be mad, and he remembers what his Aunt Clara said. She was telling him to listen to George because she knows that he doesn't know how to take care of himself, but George is a good man and he will take care of him if he will only listen. This is important because it shows how Lennie is always in trouble.

Chapter 5, page 93

"Now her rouged cheeks and her reddened lips made her seem alive and sleeping very lightly" (pg 93).

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

I wouldn't stand up and describe her and she is dead as she lay there dead, if I were the author. I would be shocked and not talking to anyone. This quote gives an angelic description of the girl now that she is dead. He describes her as sleeping but, she is really dead. This is description shows that Curley's wife is finally free and has peace in her life at last. She is no longer trapped in that world.

Chapter 2, page 34

"Lennie, who had been following the conversation back and forth with his eyes, smiled complacently at the compliment".

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

To me, these word are saying that Lennie sits back and lets George do all the talking because he doesn't always understand what is being said. Lennie is normally quiet and watches other people. This quote shows that Lennie is smarter than some think because he has been able to follow the conversation back and forth. I think he does understand. These words do a good job of showing that Lennie is able to understand more than people think.

Chapter 4, page 87

" She moved closer to him and she spoke soothingly. Don't you worry about talkin' to me. Listen to the guys yell out there. They got four dollars bet in that tenement. None of them ain't gonna leave till it's over" (pg 87).

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

I believe the girl is telling him not to worry because he is talking to her. She thinks the other guys are too distracted to come in and catch them talking. This quote is sweet because the girl never gets to talk to anyone, and she is lonely. This scene is important because shows how kind she is. She wants to make Lennie feel better after he kills the puppy by showing she still trusts him.

Chapter 5, page 98

"George stopped a moment beside Candy and they both looked down at the dead girl until Curley called, "You George! You stick with us so we don't think you had nothin' to do with this" (pg. 98).

Response, Ansisaly, Evaluation

In my opinion, it was wrong that they didn't even try to help the girl, and if I were in the same situation I would do everything I could to save her. How did they even know she was dead? This quote shows that the two men do not any have feelings for Curley's wife because they didn't even try to help her. It also shows that they blame Lennie for doing it. This part shows that when the two men got there, Curley's wife was already dead. I really felt sorry for her.

Chapter 6, page 106

"The crash of the shot rolled up the hills and rolled down again. Lennie jarred, and then settled slowly forward to the sand, and he lay without quivering" (pg. 106).

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

Lennie was kind of like playing, so he was not expecting what was coming. George wanted Lennie's last thoughts to be peaceful and happy. This quote makes it not feel like a violent murder. It feels like a mercy killing. This is important because it shows the love George felt for Lennie. He did not want to kill him, but he knew he had it. This qote shows Lennie did not suffer like he coulld have if the other men had caught and killed him.

Chapter 1, page 14

".....I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you" (pg.14).

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

To me, these words show that they love each other like brothers/family, and family stays together and cares for each other. This quote shows that George and Lennie are closer than just friends. George does not fear Lennie or who their friendship. This sentence shows how Lennie and George are good friends and care about each other just like family. I hope that they will be with each other forever.

Chapter 3, page 51

"They's gonna be a bad mess about her. She's a jail bait all set on the trigger. That Curley got his work cut out for him" (pg. 51).

Response, Analysis, Evaluation

I get a bad feeling about Curley's wife from this quote, because everybody talks about Curley and his wife in such a bad way. This quote shows that she is trouble and anyone who talks to her or tries to be friendly with her will get into trouble because Curley is so jealous. Everyone need to watch out around her. It is best to avoid her altogether. Curley is going to be in many fights over her.

Chapter 3, page 60

"George said, "we'll do her"."We'll fix up that little old place an' we'll go live there" (pg. 60).

Response,Analysis,Evaluation

This quote makes me think that George likes to fix things, and he will be happy to fix up his own place with Lennie. This quote shows me that George is looking forward to their life on their homestead together. He can't wait to get to their place and make it special for them. These words are important because George shows how much he cares about Lennie and is trying to do something good for him and for himself.
