MicroFreight DC Pilot Project

On May 7, DDOT launched the MicroFreight DC Pilot with Amazon as a partner. Over the course of the 10-month pilot, Amazon will conduct parcel deliveries using up to 15 cargo e-quadcycles. Their Delivery Service Providers will use an off-street microhub in Southwest DC to transfer packages from large trucks to cargo e-quads for final delivery, which will consolidate truck trips within the District.

These cargo e-quads are not allowed to operate, stop, or load on the sidewalk. The Delivery Service Providers must load from a Commercial Loading Zone, Residential Permit Parking, or a daylighting zone at an intersection.

A QR code on each e-quad will link to a field reporting survey that the public can submit to DDOT if they want to comment on how the e-quads are operating. A longer survey for more detailed feedback will be distributed during the summer. Please let DDOT know if you see a cargo e-quad on the sidewalk.

A press release came out on Monday, and more information is available at https://freight.ddot.dc.gov/pages/microfreight-dc-pilot-program.
