5TH GRADE-UNIT 2-C.B 32-33
THE SENSE OF TOUCH
We use our sense of touch
to identify the shape
and texture of objects and
to feel heat, pain and pressure.
The SKIN is our organ of TOUCH.
HOW OUR SENSE OF SKIN WORKS
1- Our SKIN has millions of touch receptors that allow us to feel different sensations.
2- The RECEPTORS send the information to our brain through the nerves.
THE SENSE OF SMELL
We use our sense of smell
to identify odours. People
can recognise thousands of
different odours.
The NOSE is our sense organ
of SMELL.
HOW OUR SENSE OF SMELL WORKS
1- Odours in the air enter the nostrils and reach the nasal cavity.
2- At the top of the nasal cavity
is the olfactory epithelium.
It contains the receptors that
detect the odours. These receptors
send the information along the
olfactory nerve to the brain.
THE SENSE OF TASTE
We use our sense of taste
to detect different flavours.
The TONGUE is our sense organ
of TASTE.
The TONGUE is covered
with small bumps called
TASTE BUDS.
These receptors detect
flavours and send
information to the
brain along the nerves.
Our taste buds can detect five basic flavours:
-SWEET: sugar, fruit..
-SALTY: salt, seafood..
-SOUR: lemon, vinegar..
-BITTER: coffee, grapefruit..
-UMAMI: Ham, cheese
