OVERVIEW:
French III is an intermediate/advanced foreign language course covering the skills needed to understand, read, write, and speak the target language in a culturally acceptable manner. Students will use the four language acquisition skills- reading, writing, listening, and speaking- in the context of many relevant topics.
MATERIALS:
Every student is expected to bring the following to French class with them every day:
Labeled as: “Quasimodos” AND “Vocabulaire/Grammaire”
GRADING POLICY:
The student will be evaluated through the methods listed below:
1. Daily Assignments 15%
2. Quizzes 25%
3. Unit Tests/Projects 40%
4 Final exam ** 20%
**Juniors and Seniors with a 90 average will be able to exempt the final exam as long as they have no more than 5 absences AND 3 tardies.
Grades will be updated every Monday by 4pm. Parents may access grades through
Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
MAKE-UP/LATE WORK:
All missing work will be changed to a ZERO if not turned in by the date of the Unit Exam. I do NOT accept late work after we complete a unit. If you miss a Quiz, you will take that immediately upon your return. If you miss a Unit test, you will have one week to come before or after school to make it up.
REWARDS:
Euro Policy- Students can receive “One Euro” for participation, good behavior, exceptional use of the Target Language, excellent grades, winning a game, etc. Euros can be redeemed on Unit Tests, but NOT on quizzes or the Final Exam. The number of Euros that you earn will equal the number of bonus points added to your Unit test. There will be a limit of no more than 10 Euros per test. You will need to keep up with your Euros prior to test day!

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:
1. Be on Time! The door will be shut as soon as the tardy bell rings. On the 3rd offense, they will be assigned a 20-minute teacher detention. On the 4th offense, an office referral and isolation will follow. *A white slip from the office is NOT an excuse. You are still Tardy and will sign the form as such.
2. Be ready to participate! Come to class with a positive attitude and be active during oral/partner/group activities. Sleeping or putting your head down will NOT be tolerated.
3. Be respectful! Be kind to ALL other students and the teacher. Name-calling, bullying, foul language, interrupting or touching others will NOT be tolerated.
4. Do your own work! Cheating will NOT be tolerated! Any student caught cheating (this includes using an online translator or AI) on an assignment will have to REDO the assignment with a maximum grade of a 70. You are permitted to use www.wordreference.com which works more like a dictionary.
5. No Electronics allowed! Per school policy, all electronics are prohibited during instructional time (bell to bell). I will be collecting cell phones in a numbered cell phone holder and students will be asked to put all earbuds, headphones, smartwatches away upon arrival to class. If a student refuses to place their phone in the holder and I see it, I will confiscate it and put it in their assigned spot and I will follow the school discipline policy for electronics. **School-issued Chromebooks are only to be used when I have instructed them to do so.
CONSEQUENCES for not adhering to the above listed classroom procedures:
1st -3rd Offenses- Conversation/Sign Referral Form AND Parent contact
4th Offense- Referral to office
ANY SEVERE INFRACTION--THE STUDENT WILL BE SENT TO THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY.
TUTORING:
Tutoring will be from 3:05-3:45 on Mondays and Thursdays OR as needed upon request.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM:
-If you are absent, please check Google Classroom first to see if there was anything posted in the “Classwork” section. If you don’t see anything posted, I will give you any work you missed upon your return.
