Beginning of internet (in 1960s~1980s)

• We ignored security

- Users know each other (R&D community)

- Hardware is expensive and of low performance

- Communication links are also expensive and of low performance.

Morris Worm (1988) has changed the internet

• The whole internet was down, the first worm in the internet history.

• CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) was born.

• Internet security era started, but as “add-on” such as IPsec, DNSsec,…

Secure Network

​

• Secure networks are doable now.

Example: Banking network such as SWIFT

Future – Near Term

• Ecosystem – may overhaul security ecosystems now.
• Grand policy – may develop the grand security policy now (not first aid).

Future – Long Term Perspective

• Secure network may be very difficult to develop partly due to Artificial (General) Intelligence (AGI);

​

- AI is improving 10 times per year now.

- AI becomes smarter than human, and may be used to abuse.

Any Remedy?

• Keep the current global CERT systems including FIRST.

​

• But, we need much more.
