Military

ASVAB(Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Nov 1 & Dec 6 8:00-11:30am in PHS Library
Enlistment, ROTC or Military Academies

Apprenticeship - An organized system through which you learn the practical skills of a trade. A craft worker supervises the learning process while teaching you skills of the trade on the job. Usually four years then apply and usually test with the state to become certified or licensed and earn more money. (Agriculture, Automotive, Construction, Electric, Plumbing, Welding, etc.)

Private Career Schools - For students who have chosen particular occupations and want to learn specialized training in a specific field. (Aviation, Film, Massage Therapy, Truck Driving, Culinary, Cosmetology, etc.)

Military -

Enlistment - sign up with particular branch of the military and enter the service right away. Start at boot camp and then typically get trained for a specific job

ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps): Join the military and are allowed to attend a 4-year university. You have the college experience with limited military commitment. After graduating from college, there is a 4-year commitment to the military. Graduates enter active service as an officer which has better benefits and pay, not to mention a college degree the military paid for.

Military Academies - These are elite military universities that are very competitive to get into. It varies from ROTC in that you live a military life-style while attending college

Community and Technical Colleges

Community and Technical College

Academic transfer degree, professional-technical degree, certificate of achievement, some bachelor degrees
ACT/SAT not required; no minimum GPA for admission
Apply prior to financial aid (FAFSA) deadline (usually early May for Fall admission)
English qualification - 2.75 GPA (take a transcript)
Math qualification - SBA 3 or above

Admission Due Dates - allow four weeks for transcripts and letters of rec

(i.e., holiday breaks - Request transcripts and letters of recommendation by the beginning of December for January 1 due dates)
