ATTENDANCE AND TARDY POLICIES

  • A student needs an attendance note for
    • A daily absence
    • A late check in
    • An early check out

  • A student is tardy after 7:40. There is a difference between being tardy at 7:41 versus being tardy at 8:00 or later. Five “early tardies” equals after-school detention. Four “late tardies” equals one day’s absence.

  • As noted in the Tipton County Schools Student Handbook: The Tennessee legislature passed new laws in 2018 regarding school attendance and truancy, which require immediate progressive interventions be implemented upon a student having 5 unexcused absences. Therefore, we have also made changes to our board policy regarding absences. A student will be allowed 6 parent/guardian notes (excusing a maximum of 6 total days) per school year. Parent/guardian notes for absences must be turned into the school no later than 5 days after the student returns. Doctor notes should be turned in as soon as possible. All students that do not meet the expectation of attending school every day class is in session are subject to interventions and referral to Juvenile Court if their attendance still does not fall in compliance as outlined in /tca 49-6-3009.2
  • Students turn in attendance notes to the library before homeroom upon returning to school.
