Dashboard and data discussions during State Board of Education Planning and Work Session in May 2023 led to a request for NCDPI’s Office of Research and Evaluation to revise and update the NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey

Enabling Legislation of NCTWC

The 2005 Appropriations Budget contained the enabling legislation that mandates our NC State Board of Education to:

  • administer the survey on a biennial basis
  • establish an advisory board to oversee implementation of recommendations from the survey, and
  • provide analysis to incorporate into school improvement plans

TEACHER WORKING CONDITIONS SURVEY

SECTION 7.40.(a) Funds in the amount of two hundred fifteen thousand dollars ($215,000) for the 2005-2006 fiscal year and two hundred ninety thousand dollars ($290,000) for the 2006-2007 fiscal year are appropriated in section 2.1 of this act to administer the Governor's Teacher Working Conditions Survey Initiative. These

funds shall be used by the State Board of Education, in collaboration with the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards Commission to (i) administer the survey on a biennial basis, (ii) establish an advisory board to oversee implementation of recommendations from the survey, and (iii) support the NC Network in providing customized analysis to incorporate in school improvement plans.

SECTION 7.40.(b) The State Board of Education may supplement these funds with gifts or other private funds donated for this purpose.

NC TWC Data Collection Process

  • Survey links will be send directly to educators’ school email on March 1st at 5 a.m. EST from NCTWC@adi.org
  • To participate, educators should click the link included in the email.
  • Email reminders to non-respondents will be sent March 6, 13, 20, 27, 29
  • NC TWC survey takes about 20 minutes to complete.
  • The survey must be completed and submitted in one sitting. If you leave, you can use the link again, but you will have to start the survey again.

***NO CODES WILL DISTRIBUTED THIS YEAR***

Commitment to Anonymity

  • Survey platform creates a unique survey link for every email but does not keep a record of connection between email and responses.
  • NCDPI does not have any way to connect your email address to your responses to survey items.
  • The ONLY required demographic items are years of experience, years at school, and immediate professional plans.
  • Survey results are not released unless a minimum 5 participants have taken the survey.

  • Set aside ~20 minutes to take the survey. Survey must be started and completed in one sitting.
  • TAKE the survey - be honest - we want to hear your feedback about your experiences in NC public schools.
  • Contact the NC TWC Help Desk to obtain replacement survey links and ask clarifying questions by visiting https://www.nctwcs.org/ and click on “Need Help?”.
