2009-2010 Commemorative Sandridge Family CalendarSandridge Chapel
In 1901, James & Sarah Carter Doss Sandridge donated land to the Kirbytown, Al., Community to build a Church. The original structure was built in 1918 described as an 18X18 log cabin, later it was rebuilt. The Church alternated Sundays between the Methodist & Baptist Congregations. Additionally, it served as the Sandridge Masonic Lodge #225 (see top right picture of church) after moving from Meltonsville, Al.
Our earliest Homecomings began and revolved The Church.

Sandridge Family CalendarAugust 2009 thru July 2010
This Commemorative, Sandridge Family Calendar is based on the annual Kirbytown Reunion, held the second Sunday of August in what once known as the community of Kirbytown Alabama. This annual Community Reunion is now well over fifty plus years in it’s gathering.
There are many family members that assisted in making this calendar possible both past and present. However, I would like to extend a special thanks to John Elisha Sandridge, my grandfather who was the family historian, who collected and preserved family documentations, alone with Church and School ledgers in the community and who also kept the lives of the family members alive with his story telling. After his death in 1989 his daughter, Willie Mae Sandridge-Walker became the custodian of such information and continued to add to it. A special thanks to Ms. Gwendolyn Gillard and her efforts with creating a family web-site; Tribalpages.com. you can log on by entering Kirbytown1. Hopefully, while you are enjoying the (August 2009 – July 2010) Calendar you will learn more about the Sandridge Family and if you fail to find any information or you will easily provide the information using the web-site or using the family information form provided at the end of the Calendar.
The site presently has approximately 338 family names with the month of August having the most birthdays posted (33) while December posted the fewest (16). There are a total of 157 pictures included in the calendar with the months of January and July showing a total of 18 pictures each. December had the least number of pictures with 6.
We are constantly looking for additional family pictures & information of elders and of Reunions of the early beginnings. Proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go the maintenance and upkeep of the Kirbytown Community Cemetery. Much Love and Thanks, Family.

SANDRIDGE FAMILY CALENDARFannie Mae Pearl, born May 7, 1886, 9th child and 5th daughter, died during infancy date unknown, no picture.
Matriach, Sarah Carter Doss-Sandridge was born May 12, 1847 in Kirbytown, Alabama (no picture). Sarah was the daughter of Molly Carter Doss, a slave. Molly arrived in Kirbytown as a slave forced walked alone with a small group of other slaves from Louisiana through Mississippi some been sold along the route; all the while Molly been pregnant with Sarah. Molly and Sarah was sold to the Carter Family and later to the Doss Family prior to emancipation. Sarah married James Sandridge on March 3, 1869 shortly after the Civil War, in Kirbytown. As described by her son and my Grandfather, John Eisha Sandridge, his mother worked on the farm and hired out as a teamster. Teamster, meaning that she hauled cut logs with a team of mules and oxens over the mountain to the lumber mill. Papa, as we would refer to John Elisha often shared the story of his mother coming home after hauling logs wearing men’s boots, overhauls and a long skirt that would be frozen up to her knees; removing the dress and hanging it up near the coal burning stove to dry before the next morning’s work. Sarah was not able to read or write, however as told by Papa, any word that you could pronounce to Sarah she would be able to spell-out. Against many odds both she and her husband James Sandridge managed to raise 10 children and accumulate over 300 hundred acres in Marshall County, Alabama. Sarah lived 8 years after the death of James, she died on October 29,1918 at the age of 66.
