2.OpenRS Coalition

What is OpenRS?

  • Open source resource sharing software

  • OpenRS is built using a philosophy of open standards and native integration, prioritizing a heterogeneous resource sharing system that is ILS and Discovery agnostic while accommodating the full spectrum of mediated and unmediated resource sharing

What is OpenRS?

  • Mobius and Galileo recognised that no solution in the marketplace met their needs i.e. DCB + FOLIO + Multi-type consortia (ILS agnostic but closely tied to FOLIO)

  • OpenRS is BEYOND both INN-Reach and ReShare
    • OpenRS is the logical next evolution of the workflows that exist in ReShare and INN-Reach.
    • We envision a software that integrates the best of both DCB and P2P models to enable seamless transitions between different workflows for library staff.

OpenRS Coalition

  • The OpenRS Coalition welcomes and celebrates the differences in types of libraries and types of library consortia, working to build those different needs into a robust system that provides options in configuration, rather than a monolithic software stack.

  • OpenRS will be designed with a “consortia first” model, providing consortia with the workflows and tools needed to provide robust and extended functionality for consortial resource sharing, including seamless unmediated intra-consortial borrowing functionality as well as expanded sharing across multiple consortia.

Clearing up mis-information

  • OpenRS is not proprietary - it is open source

Clearing up mis-information

  • OpenRS is configured both for local hosting and hosting service providers. Libraries and consortia do NOT have to be an EBSCO customer to use or host OpenRS.

  • OpenRS is ILS and Discovery agnostic. Libraries and consortia do NOT have to be on FOLIO or using EBSCO’s Locate product to implement OpenRS.

Clearing up mis-information

  • OpenRS and ReShare share a common ancestor. Neither is a branch of the other; they are both branches of the common ancestor
