Arnco-Sargent Elementary celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month!

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15th through October 15th and here at Arnco-Sargent, we are celebrating it in many ways!

*Each morning, our announcements are featuring a Hispanic Hero as well as a Spanish word/phrase of the day.*We have a display where our students can show off pictures of their family and their countries of origin. If you haven’t sent your picture in and want to be included, you can still send them in! *We are also hosting our Family STEM Pinata Contest! All families and cultures are invited to participate in this event!

Family STEM Pinata Contest

Pinatas represent celebrations, and we want to celebrate our Arnco-Sargent families! You and your family are tasked with designing a homemade pinata that represents your family culture! Our culture is our way of life! It includes our family values, music, habits, clothing, religion, ancestry, etc! We each have our own unique family cultures, and this makes our Arnco-Sargent family beautiful!

  • There are tons of tutorials online to help guide you in the right direction of creating a pinata, but the design should be your own and should represent your family!
  • Create your pinata from recyclable items around your home! No need to buy any supplies!
  • No store-bought pinatas allowed!
  • You must work together as a family!
  • Your pinata must have an opening which would allow it to be filled with small prizes or candy.
  • Your pinata must be able to hang!
  • Pinatas are designed to be broken! No unbreakable pinatas!
  • Think like a scientist, be creative, have fun, and focus on what makes your family unique!

Pinatas are due by October 10 to your child’s homeroom! They will be displayed the next week in the front hallway of the school. Students will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite ones, and there will be prizes for the 3 pinatas receiving the most votes! Pinatas will come home October 13th, and we encourage you to have a pinata-busting family night!

This is not a required activity, but an amazing opportunity to spend time creating and talking with your family about what makes your family unique and special!
