STEP

• This flyer is included with your registration materials
• Videos and Info on Google Site
• 10th graders can go to STEP part-time
• Open to any student, but check prerequisites!
• Bussing is provided

STEP

There are both morning and afternoon sessions at STEP.

• Morning session runs hours 1-2
• Afternoon session runs hours 4-5

You cannot indicate which session or trimester you prefer. You will be scheduled based on availability and what works with your other classes.

What’s New or Different?

• English 10 is now named “Pre AP English 2”
• More AP options open (college level coursework in high school)
• You may have some courses pre-locked in if they are required for you
• STEP options

Registration Course Numbers

• Distributed in Advisory & on Google Site
• Use your grade-specific Course Number sheet to find course numbers
• Transfer the 5-digit numbers to the worksheet
• STEP course numbers are attached- these can also be included on the worksheet
• Pay attention to prerequisites

Math Registration

See “Math Paths” chart on page 10 of Registration Guide. Find your 9^th grade math class and go down to the “Next year take” row to see your recommended next step.

If you’re struggling in your current math class you may need to repeat a course instead of moving on to a new course. See your math teacher or Counselor for ideas on what to do next.

1. Start with Required classes- the worksheet will guide you through your choices
2. Finish with electives or other courses you would like to take
3. Provide alternates

Reminder: If you select a class as either a 1st choice or an alternate you will not be allowed to drop the class- plan carefully!

• All students will enter their course requests using StudentVue
• (Hint: Use course numbers instead of titles to search)
• Be sure to know how to log in under the lock and key
• You can only enter using the student log in (not parent log in)

• Use the Graduation Status Link in the “Course History” tab of StudentVue to see what you need in order to graduate

How to Select Classes

Talk to your teachers and counselor with questions and recommendations

Pay attention to Prerequisites- use the Registration Guide to make sure you qualify for the courses you select.

Think about your course load.

Most AP classes are Tri 1 and 2 (and full-year will run all 3 tri’s)

Can you handle the courses you are asking for?

How has 9^th grade been? Too much? Not enough? Just right?

Know Your Graduation Requirements

English- 4 credits total

• Honors English 9- 1.0 credit
• Pre-AP English 2 - 1.0 credit
• English 11 or AP English Language & Comp- 1.0 credit
• English 12 or AP Literature & Comp- 1.0 credit

Graduation Requirements

Social Studies- 4 credits total

• Civics 9 (.5) and Geography 9 (.5)- 1.0
• US History 10 or AP US History- 1.0
• World History 11 or AP World History- 1.0
• Econ 12 or AP Micro Econ- .5 and Gov’t & Politics 12 or AP Gov’t & Politics- .5

Math- 3 credits total

• Intermediate Algebra -1.0
• Geometry- 1.0
• Algebra II - 1.0

Graduation Requirements

Science- 3 credits total

• Earth Science 9 or Honors Earth Science 9- 1.0
• Chemistry or AP Chemistry- 1.0
• Biology or AP Biology- 1.0

Graduation Requirements

• .5 Physical Education I
• .5 Physical Education II
• .5 Health (grade 10 preferred)
• 1.0 Arts (page 9 of Registration Guide)
• .5 Personal Money Management (this is a new graduation requirement - you will need to take this class sometime during your 10th, 11th or 12th grade year).

There are also courses students may be placed in if their academic record requires it, such as Reading, Math, or special education.

College?

• Begin keeping track of activities/awards/honors/leadership/volunteerism
• Testing: ACT (or SAT) ACT in spring of Grade 11

Parting Thoughts

• 10^th grade is very important to transcript- lots of content!
• Start setting good organization, homework, and calendar habits
• PSEO qualification is based on GPA and class rank. The best thing a 9^th grader can do to be eligible is to do well in their 9^th and 10^th grade courses.
