Meet Anne Whaits…

Anne Whaits

  • She is the PBL Group 10 facilitator
  • Chief Academic Officer (CAO) of a private higher education company in South Africa
  • At an executive level she is responsible for their Multi-modal Teaching and Learning Strategy, Product Strategy, Learning Innovation and Regulatory Compliance.
  • Anne loves hiking and flowers and lives in one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Cape Town, South Africa.

Meet Ana Maria Barral…

Ana Maria Barral

  • Ana completed her Ph.D. studies in Sweden (Linkoping) and moved to the USA in 2002 for post-doctoral research.
  • Ana is now an Associate Professor of biology at a private non profit university in California called National University.
  • She is a researcher in ocean plastic microbes and is interested in STEM education.
  • Amongst other things, she is interested in conflict resolution, scicomm, anything relating to the ocean, and photography.

Olaf Hertting

  • Olof is a pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.
  • He has a keen interest in medical education both on a graduate and postgraduate level.
  • Online Problem based learning is new to him and he is looking forward to learning more about modern approaches to learning.

Zakhele Mbokazi

  • Zakhele has been the Dean of Faculty for Education at Educor Holdings since 1st February 2019.
  • Previously, he was a Head of Faculty at a Private Higher Education Institute.
  • Zakhele also lectured at the University of the Witwatersrand from 2007 to 2014 and has more than twenty years experience in the field of education, teaching across various sectors ranging from primary through to secondary school.
  • He worked as a Teacher Advisor at the Maths Centre for Primary Teachers (NGO).
  • Zakhele is passionate about Teacher Education and Educational Leadership and Management.
  • Zakhele obtained his PhD on effective school leadership in challenging contexts from Wits University in 2013.

Helena Lööf

  • Helena is a senior lecturer and researcher at Mälardalens University.
  • She specializes in long-term pain and fatigue among persons with long-term illness. From a person-center approach, life-world perspective.
  • Her research includes the concept of body awareness and fear-avoidance beliefs.

Meet Dimitrios Andreou…

Dimitrios Andreou

  • Dimitrios is from Greece and is currently living in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • He is a consultant in psychiatry who specializes in schizophrenia.
  • He works as a university teacher in psychiatry at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and as a posdoctoral fellow in the Univerity of Oslo, Norway, where he investigates the implication of pathogens in schizophrenia and related disorders.

Annika Skogster

  • Annika is a co-facilitator in the PBL group 10 space.
  • She joined the ONL181 last fall and is passionate about supporting her group on this journey.
  • She works as a lecturer in Arcada at the University of Applied Science in Helsinki, Finland.
  • She teaches clinical care and medication administration to nursing students.
  • She has a love for online learning and hopes to learn even more during this 2019 journey.

Meet Bethseba Siddondo…

Bethseba Siddondo

  • Bethseba has 12 years of basic biomedical, public health research and research management experience in Kenya.

  • She has been involved in malaria immunology and epidemiological studies at the Kenya Medical Research Institute and Wellcome Trust Research Organizations in Kenya.

  • In the past 6 years she has been involved in project and grant management in various health related thematic areas including clinical trials at the Centre for Research in Therapeutic Sciences, Strathmore University, Kenya.

  • She is actively engaged in training on project management within her institution and has successfully coordinated the implementation of several clinical trial activities in a platform consisting of seven countries in Africa.

  • Her interaction with external partners and collaborators has broadened hrt knowledge and sharpened her skills in collaborative research management.

Meet Ilkin Mehrabov…

Ilkin Mehrabov

  • Ilkin is a computational social scientist with an undergraduate degree in electrical and electronics engineering.
  • He holds graduate degrees in media, cultural and communication studies – conducting quantitative and qualitative research on social movements; surveillance; cybersecurity; online censorship; ICT4D; digital propaganda and political economy of communication.
  • He is a senior lecturer at the Department of Strategic Communication at the Campus Helsingborg of Lund University.
  • His research revolves around digital media and it’s consequences for society at large.

Meet Dominique Beyleveld…

Dominique Beyleveld

  • Dominique holds an LLB degree from Nelson Mandela University (NMU), as well as a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Labour Law and Social Security.
  • She is a commercial litigation attorney by profession and left private practice to pursue her Master’s degree (LLM) in Labour Law at NMU, during which she was offered a lecturing post at the Independent Institute of Education (IIE) – the largest provider of private higher education in South Africa.
  • Dominique is now a full-time law lecturer and an internationally accredited professional mediator, trained through the London School of Mediation in the UK. She is an associate member of the Arbitration Association of South Africa Arbitrators of Southern Africa and I sit on their mediation panel for the Southern African region.
  • She is passionate about legal research and academia as well as adult education.
  • Dominique is a crazy cat lady and has always been very involved in animal anti-cruelty activisim and animal rescue. She loves reading, yoga, cooking, golf and (of course) her 6 fur children.

Meet Gamze Sökücü...

Gamze Sökücü

  • Gamze is studying at Stockholm University in Language Education Department at an advanced level.

  • She is also an English teacher and has experience teaching in higher education level in various positions.

  • She is interested in and excited about combining technology and language education on a deeper level. As a result, she is always on the lookout for different ways to gamify the learning experience. Therefore, this time she is on board to experience Project-Based Learning and find ways to implement it in her own teaching.

  • She loves chocolate, coffee, computer games and traveling, not necessarily in this specific order.
