How to Start

(Best Practices)

  1. Start by going places with Google Maps. Allow students to go anywhere in the world. Invite students to share where in the world they are with classmates and what they discovered there.

  • Try Google My Maps- Allow students to explore one you’ve created, ask them what features they notice and how it’s different from Google Maps. Next try the Happy Place HyperDoc lesson so they can add markers to a collaborative map.

  • Try Google Earth- Allow students to explore a Voyage first to get experience using the navigation tools. Review how this tool is different from the previous tools they’ve used. Next try build a collaborative Project.

  • Publishing Class Projects- Keep using each tool to create a visual way to publish student work. Student created videos can be used in My Maps and Earth…links to written work or websites can also be added. Students can create paper versions of their work and include them as an image as well. The possibilities are endless!
