  • Recruiting begins in earnest – NOW!
    • 16 students and 2 alternates will be selected
  • APPLICATION DUE – Monday, November 5 at 8am
    • BHS/Student Life/Global Leadership Opportunities
  • Financial aid forms are due to Town Hall ASAP
  • DECISIONS FINALIZED – Monday, November 12
  • DEPOSIT DUE – Friday, November 16

Who’s eligible?

  • Students in good standing / have a record of strong citizenship at BHS
  • Interest in health care
  • Spanish proficiency or above is helpful but not required
  • Willingness to deal with the tropics
  • Non negotiable in country:
      • Life vest when on the boat
      • No underage drinking, smoking, etc. – subject to being sent home at your own cost as well as school consequences
      • You must UNPLUGGGGGGG

Criteria for selection

  • Application submitted on time
  • Solid recommendation(s) from teachers
  • Quality of growth opportunity, as demonstrated by application responses
  • Participation on previous global leadership opportunities

fundraising

  • All participants expected to participate in group fundraising activities
    • Idea generation
    • Completion of the fundraising activities
  • Group fundraising monies will be equitably distributed, based on need that’s determined by the Town
  • Individual students can organize their own fundraisers (e.g. GoFundMe; solicit money from family friends, employers; get a standing babysitting job; etc.)

Critical Travel basics

  • US Passport valid until October 21, 2019
  • Non-US Passport?:
    • Research if Panama requires a short-stay visa for your nationality
    • If you are Panamanian, you need BOTH parents to consent to your exit from Panama
  • Immunizations up-to-date
