Guidelines

  • The next slide is a choice board for your digital notebook.
    • Click on a topic to get more details.
    • The left-hand side of the slide will have the prompt/guidelines
    • The right-hand side of the slide is for your writing
  • You will need to complete three entries in a Tic-Tac-Toe format they may be:
    • Vertical
    • Horizontal
    • Diagonal
  • Your notebook is an space to generate ideas, to create writing territories, something that can lead to further writing. . With that in mind follow these guidelines:
    • Write for five minutes. Here is a online free timer.
    • Don’t think too much. Try to write fast enough that you “outrun the censor” in your head.
    • Don’t worry about grammar or punctuation. Let your ideas lead.
    • Let the writing take you where it takes you—that is, don’t feel you have to “stay on topic”.
  • Once you are done, please delete all the other slides that you did not use.

Select one of the characters from the novel and write a brief analysis of the character. Consider the following:

  • What makes the character complex?
  • Does the character face internal or external conflicts?
  • How does the characters actions/choices impact the story’s development?

Write about a thematic idea from the novel. Consider the following guidelines:

  • Is there a clear theme emerging from the text?
  • Does the novel address any universal themes dealing with the ideas of:
    • Identity
    • Coming-of-age
    • Finding one’s purpose

Write about how the structure of the novel is significant or contributing to the overall purpose of the novel. Consider:

  • Is it a unique structure?
  • Is the structure effective?

Write about how the setting contributes to the novel’s overall purpose. Consider:

  • The overall setting
  • A particular setting in the novel
  • Time
  • Place
