College/Career Indicator

Career pathway completion is one of the metrics on the College/Career Indicator

You can actually see updated data in your additional reports even without the dashboard update.

Find the current status of any school at CaSchoolDashboard.org.

  • Click on College/Career to see the current “status”
  • Click on “additional reports” to see where students land on the CCI for the past few years.

Defining Pathways

CTE Pathways are in designated sectors and each sector has its own suite of standards.

The 2 to 4 year pathway course sequence must be focused on one pathway within a sector, cover all related standards, and last a minimum of 300 hours

16 of 41

Defining Pathways

CTE courses are categorized as Introduction, Concentrator or Capstone. A “pathway completer” must complete 300 hours between concentrator and capstone.

Courses are coded specifically in CALPADS according to sector, pathway and level. CTE Course Codes

To be a CTE pathway the courses must be taught by CTE teachers credentialed in the sector they are teaching within.

CALPADs codes should align within the same pathway and should match the course being taught as well as the CTE credential.

Identify your sector

Find the pathway standards for your sector

Standards you cover should include

  • Standards for Career Ready Practice
  • Anchor Standards
  • Pathway Standards - only the letter associated with the pathway you are developing

The full list of the above standards should be covered across your two+ year sequence of courses. Many will be covered in each course at a different level of rigor.

Coding for CTE

Use the CTE Course Codes document and ensure you have a minimum of concentrator and capstone full year courses in the same pathway within a sector.

CTE credentials are by sector, so ensure your credentialed teacher matches the code, and is teaching the model curriculum standards for that pathway

California Educators Together

California Educators Together is the new face of CTE Online, and is a more inclusive OER resource across subjects.

The Model Course Outlines are posted and are a great place to start, and you can adjust your course from there! It is also a rich resource of OER lessons and projects.

UCCI: University of California Curriculum Integration

A-g aligned courses in CTE and contextualized across subjects are built out and freely available to adopt.

Assets

  • Facilities
    • Ability to accomodate specialized equipment or extended space
  • Funding
    • CTE Should be part of your LCAP and most grants require a 2:1 match at the moment.
    • K12SWP can be used before pathways are in place
    • CTEIG can be used for high quality pathways
  • Materials and Equipment
    • Can you leverage anything you already have?
  • Partnerships/Community Assets
    • Where else can you find support/resources?

Matching interest to Need

High quality pathways are meant as a workforce development initiative! Ensuring you are preparing students for the careers of the future is key.

Find your labor market entity by county at the California EDD website

Identify the high wage, high growth sectors and where they align with the CDE CTE Industry Sectors and Pathways.

Matching interest to Need

Engage your students and community once you have in mind what the best pathways are that you can offer, considering everything we have covered today!

Engage students in truly understanding the best options, and diving into strengths, interests and values. Match those to industry!

Include parents, guardians and community members, as well as school staff to determine the best fit, and identify assets that can help drive success.

Setting goals for high quality pathways:

  • What do you want your pathway to look like 5 years from now?
  • What should happen in the next year to get there?
